Regulation mode can be used, for example, to produce a plot of the generator output
level versus frequency to yield a constant 1 percent distortion. This capability is
typically used by broadcast engineers for proof-of-performance testing. Refer to
Regulation Mode Measurements on page 4-40.
The Audio Analyzer works by collecting a series of settled points and assembling
them into a trace. Generally, these data points are collected as a result of a sweep in
either frequency or amplitude (or both).
Sweep detection can be turned on or off globally for all four measurements. Sweep
detection is also configurable when the signal source is External (open-loop
operation). Touch the Sweep soft key to display the Sweep Detection Controls
menus seen in Figure 4-25. In this menu you can configure the settings associated
with the sweep detection capabilities of the AM700. Using the Sweep Detection
Controls you can select the source of the sweep and the sweep attributes. The sweep
detection attributes are the direction of the sweep, detection on rising or falling
edge, the sweep type (frequency or amplitude), and the minimum change in either
frequency or amplitude that is necessary for sweep detection.
NOTE. Sweep detection controls have no effect in Regulation mode or closed-loop
operation.
Sweep Detection Off. When sweep detection is off, all sweep source and sweep
attributes selections are grayed out. All generated points plot if they settle. If they
do not settle within the time out setting, an empty circle is plotted. Each data point
becomes part of the same trace. You may want to operate with sweep detect off if
the steps of a sweep are not settled enough to prevent the sweep detection from
detecting a new sweep and starting the plot over. Turn the generator off and use the
Plot controls to erase the current plot, if one is present. Press Sweep to start the new
sweep plot. When the sweep light goes out to signify that the sweep is finished, turn
off the generator to prevent further data from being plotted.
