Structured programming support (such as conditionals and subroutines) in the
function scripting language is supported using the Tcl programming language for
AM700 functions. Tcl for “Tool Command Language” is becoming popular because
of its ease of implementation in new computing systems. Tcl is a simple interpretive
programming language.
The function implementation runs SCPI commands under Tcl and will appear as
plain SCPI if you are not interested in using the capabilities provided by Tcl.
However, because Tcl is used to interpret the SCPI commands, if you are familiar
with Tcl programming you can include code to do conditional branching, looping,
and other special purpose testing not specifically designed into the applications of
the AM700.
Files are loaded into the NVRAM of the AM700 from the DOS format floppy disk
drive using commands found in the Storage menus. The Storage Manager (see
Figure 4-71 on page 4-133) has soft key choices for opening directories that files are
to be directed to, making new directories, and selecting and copying files to and
from the floppy drive (DOS format).
The upper level of the AM700 files comprise ROM, NVRAM, and DOS logical
directories. Under those, other directories or files can exist. You can use certain
directories for storing files you create. Loading, renaming, copying, and deleting
files is of particular importance to the Function feature of the AM700.
Changing directories is done using the Storage Manager control screen that is
displayed when the front-panel Storage front-panel button is pressed (see
Figure 4-71).
