Figure 2-32: Digital audio connectors
AES REF IN, OUT. These connectors meet the AES standard for AES/EBU digital
audio (AES11-1991) signals. The AES REF OUT signal is locked to the AES REF
IN signal in From Ref mode. This permits you to connect to your reference signal
for the sample clock and provides an output that you can connect to a device under
test. When the AM700 is used in stand-alone measurements, the AES REF OUT
connector can be used to provide the sample clock to the device under test when it
needs an external reference.
NOTE. In order to meet radiated EMI regulations, the cable connected to the rear
panel AES REF OUT must be wired with the cable shield connected to both pin 1
and to the shell of the female XLR connector (sometimes labeled G within the
connector). Both of these connections should be as short as possible, less than 0.25
inch (0.635 cm).
Unbalanced IN, OUT. These BNC connectors provide the same signal connections as
the front-panel Digital XLR connectors, but unbalanced, as an alternative to the
balanced XLR front-panel connectors. The IN connector is selectable to provide the
digital signal input; the OUT connector provides an output signal whenever the AES
digital generator is supplying a signal.
