Ground Fault Protection Device Brochure

Morningstar’s Ground Fault Protecon Device (GFPD) Family, Models GFPD-150V and
GFPD-600V, increases safety and design exibility in o-grid and on-grid photovoltaic
(PV) systems. Ground fault protecon is used in electrical systems to prevent current
from following any unintended paths during a ground fault. It is crical to detect any
stray current and to interrupt (break) the circuit unl safe operaon can be restored. A
current imbalance between the primary +/- PV conductors entering the charger/inverter
may indicate a ground fault condion. Morningstars GFPD will detect this condion and
break the circuit on both the posive and negave legs. Disconnecng both poles ensures
interrupon of the ground fault current.
The GFPD enables system design exibility. Morningstar designed the GFPD to be easily
paired with our world-leading TriStar MPPT™ charge controller during on-site installaon.
Addionally, the GFPD will work just as well in systems with mixed vendor components.
Morningstar’s GFPD is a superior soluon to ground fault protecon. With its custom
molded equipment ground terminals, installaon and troubleshoong are simplied.
Furthermore, the GFPD breaks the enre PV array circuit during a fault condion and
requires no special labeling on the baery enclosure. The following pages contain a
side-by-side comparison between Morningstars GFPD and other soluons.
Ground Fault Protection Device
Safety Features
Breaks the connecon to the PV array
during a fault condion
Leaves the baery and DC loads grounded
under all condions
Eliminates the danger of an ungrounded
baery and therefore requires no special
labeling at the baery locaon
Features audible and visual indicaons
Performs precise current measurement
with no fuses
Includes push-buon test circuit
