Chapter 3 Using your Tablet PC 55
Using the GPS receiver
The Gobi module includes a GPS receiver. The GPS receiver provides the current location,
altitude, heading, and horizontal velocity of the Tablet PC through the Connection Manager
user interface and through a virtual communications port. The virtual communications port
outputs standard NMEA GPS information that can be used with most third-party GPS
navigation applications, mapping applications, and other applications.
You can use the Connection Manager to start, stop, and manage the GPS receiver. See
“Using Connection Manager on page 55.
Note: To use the GPS receiver, you do not need a network connection or an account with a
Mobile Broadband network carrier.
Using Connection Manager
You can use Motion Connection Manager and Gobi™ to get wireless, high-speed Internet
access anywhere you want using a secure 3G Internet connection from a variety of carriers.
Use Connection Manager to configure Gobi and connect to mobile broadband networks.
The Gobi module also includes a global positioning system (GPS) receiver. The GPS receiver
can determine the current location, altitude, heading, and horizontal velocity of the
Tablet PC.
