7.10 Flip Assembly
7.10.1 Remove Flip Assembly:
Required Tools: Black stick, dental pick,
T4 Torx bit, hinge mechanism removal tool.
NOTE: i870 flip components include a
flex connector ribbon which can
be easily torn or damaged if not
handled with care. Exercise
caution when sliding the flex
ribbon through the front housing
slot.
1. Remove the keypad and main board
from the front housing. Make sure the
flip is in the open position
2. Remove the right knuckle pushbutton
by pushing up and out on the pointed
corner of the pushbutton with a dental
pick (see Figure 7-10. Set pushbutton
aside.
3. Align and insert the hinge mechanism
removal tool into the hinge mechanism
end (see Figure 7-11).
4. Push the tool’s squared tip into the hinge
mechanism gently. Twist the tool clock-
wise slightly a few degrees. Pull up on
the tool while rotating the flip back and
forth a few degrees until the hinge
mechanism releases from its pocket (see
Figure 7-12). Remove the hinge
mechanism and set aside.
5. Locate the left knuckle T4 retaining
screw by viewing from the back of the
front housing at the Flex ribbon slot.
Remove the T4 screw. (see Figure7-13).
Set aside.
6. With the pointed tip of the black stick,
push on the inside of the left knuckle
from the end of the flex slot until the
knuckle releases (see Figure 7-14). Do
not touch or damage the flex ribbon
during this step.
