Get Started The following topics give you all the information you need to set up your Moto X™ phone and Sprint service the first time. Your Phone at a Glance The following illustration outlines your phone’s primary external features and buttons. Note: Your phone may look a little different. This product meets the applicable national or international RF exposure guidance (SAR guideline) when used normally against your head or, when worn or carried, at a distance of 2.5 cm from the body.
Caution: Before using your phone, please read the safety, regulatory and legal information provided with your product. 1. Plug the USB connector into the charger/accessory jack on the bottom of your phone. 2. Plug the AC adapter into an electrical outlet. Fully charging a battery may take up to three hours. Your phone may turn on when you connect the AC adapter to the outlet—this is normal. Note: This product uses a non-removable battery.
n n n If you purchased your phone in a Sprint Store, it is probably activated and ready to use. If you received your phone in the mail and it is for a new Sprint account or a new line of service, it is designed to activate automatically. To confirm your activation, make a phone call. If you received your phone in the mail and you are activating a new phone for an existing number on your account, you will need to go online to activate your new phone. l From your computer’s Web browser, go to sprint.
l l l Sign in – Enter your Gmail address and password and touch Sign in to sign in to your current Google Account. Get an account – Follow the instructions to sign up for a new Google Account. There will be screens to enter your first and last names, create an email address (Gmail), create a password, enter recovery information (including a backup email address and recovery question), an option to join Google+™, and an option to enable purchases from the Google Play Store app.
If your screen is locked, press the Power key to turn on the screen and then flick the lock symbol on the screen to unlock it. 1. Touch Phone > and then touch and hold (the number 1 on the dialpad) or touch Apps Voicemail. 2. Follow the system prompts to: l Create your password. l Record your name announcement. l Record your greeting. Note: Voicemail Password – Sprint strongly recommends that you create a password when setting up your voicemail to protect against unauthorized access.

Phone Basics Your phone is packed with features that simplify your life and expand your ability to stay connected to the people and information that are important to you. The following topics introduce the basic functions and features of your phone. Tip: Phone Software Upgrades – Updates to your phone’s software may become available from time to time. Sprint will automatically upload critical updates to your phone. You can also use the menu to check for and download updates.
n n n n n n n Power key lets you turn the phone on or off or turn the screen on or off, or switch your phone to silent mode, vibration mode, or airplane mode. Volume keys allow you to adjust the ringtone or media volume or adjust the voice volume during a call. Micro USB/Charger Jack allows you to connect the phone charger or a USB cable (included). Microphone transmits your voice for phone calls or records your voice or ambient sounds for voice recordings and videos.
Turn Your Screen On and Off Your phone allows you to quickly turn the screen off when not in use and to turn it back on and unlock it when you need it. For information on how to set up security options to avoid unauthorized access to your phone, see Security Settings. Turn the Screen Off When Not in Use n To turn the screen off, press the Power key. Pressing the Power key again or receiving an incoming call will turn on your phone screen and show the lock screen.
l If you have set up a screen lock, you will be prompted to draw the pattern or enter the password or PIN. See Screen Lock in Security Settings. Note: To change the notifications your sleeping phone flashes, touch Apps Active Display > Select apps. > Settings > Note: During a call, your screen might stay dark if the sensor just above the top of the screen is covered. Don't use covers or screen protectors (even clear ones) that cover this sensor.
n n Swipe (or drag): Press an item and then slide it to a new location and release. Flick: Use light, quick strokes in a vertical or horizontal direction, such as when scrolling through contacts or messages lists. Tip: To stop a quickly scrolling list, touch the screen. Tip: To add or show other panels of shortcuts and widgets, flick the home screen left or right.
Note: Your home screen might look a little different. Add Items to the Home Screen Learn how to add, move, or remove items from the home screen pages. n Wallpaper: Touch and hold an empty spot on your home screen to choose your wallpaper. n Widgets and shortcuts: Touch Apps , touch and hold the widget or shortcut and drag it to one of your home screen panels. To see all your apps, shortcuts, and widgets, touch Apps and flick the menu to the left, or touch APPS or WIDGETS at the top.
Network and Wi-Fi icons turn blue when your phone exchanges data with your Google Account. Note: Apps you download on the Google Play Store app might show other icons in the status bar to alert you to specific events.
To delete alerts individually or clear the entire list: n Touch the status bar and flick or drag down to see all of your alerts. l To clear all the Active Notification alerts, touch . l To remove individual alerts, swipe a message to the right or left. You can also choose to send notification text messages and other information to your computer using Motorola Connect. For more, see Motorola Connect.
You can modify the Active Display settings. n From home, touch Apps want to change. > Settings > Active Display and then touch an option you For more information, see Active Display Settings. Motorola Connect Use your Google Account to connect your phone to your computer. See call, contact, and messaging info on your computer. Know who’s calling before you reach for your phone. Send and receive text messages from your desk using a simple add-on to your desktop Chrome™ browser. For more, see motorola.
Flick left and right to see all of your apps. Any new apps that you download (see Google Play™ Store) are added to the app menu. Tip: Continue to flick left past the apps and to see the widgets you can place on your home screen. To close the app menu, touch Home or Back . Recent Apps Touch Recent Apps Home or Back to see the last few apps you used, and then touch the app you want. Touch to return to the home screen.
Touch the Google search widget for a text search. As you type, suggestions appear below the search field. n To search by using the suggestion, touch the suggestion. n To search for your text in the search field, touch on the keyboard. Help You can ask a question, watch a tutorial, or read a how-to. Talk to someone or find out anything about your phone. Manage settings that provide you tips about using your phone and your phone’s performance.
If you set up a Google Account when you initially set up your phone, open Google Now: n Touch and hold and then drag up into the home screen to the Google Now circle release your finger. and To turn Google Now off, open Google Now, and scroll to the bottom of the screen: n Touch Menu > Settings and then next to Google Now, touch . to display the option.
To activate Motorola Assist, touch Apps > Assist. Note: Motorola Assist may not be able to detect when you are driving when GPS is turned off. Enter Text You can type on your phone using one of the available touchscreen keyboards or Google voice typing. Touchscreen Keyboard Your phone has a traditional QWERTY keyboard for entering text. The keyboard appears automatically on-screen when you touch a text entry field, and is used in either portrait or landscape mode.
You can use the following options to enter text on your touchscreen. n n n n Type: Enter letters by touching them one at a time (like on a computer). Gesture: Enter a word by tracing a continuous path through the letters. When you lift your finger after the last letter of a word, a space is automatically added. Word completion/correction: Whether you type or use gestures to add part of a word to the text box, suggestions for the word appear below the text box in the word list.
n Close the keyboard: Touch Back or touch at the bottom of your phone. Note: Your touchscreen keyboard looks slightly different depending on whether you’re entering a text message, email, or other text. You can also use Google Voice typing to enter text using your voice (see Voice Typing for details). Text Entry Settings and Dictionary You can change the preferences when using your keyboard, voice entry options, and edit the dictionary of words your phone suggests.
Tip: Touch and hold icons to show their description label. To… Instructions Enter alternate characters Touch and hold the letter to enter its associated number, or touch to enter numbers or =\< to enter symbols. Enter one capital letter Touch and touch the letter. Enter only capital letters Touch Touch twice to see a bar under the icon and type. again to return to typing lowercase. Select text Double tap a word to select it.
n From home, touch Apps Control. > Settings > Touchless Control and then touch Touchless Say “OK Google Now” followed by a command whenever you need something. Tell Google Now to show you a list of its sample activities by saying “Help me”. Want to know what’s happened since the last time you checked your phone? Wake up Google Now by saying “OK Google Now” and then say “What’s up?”. Google Now speaks your latest notifications. You can train your phone to recognize your voice to launch Google Now. 1.
Search.To begin a voice search while on the home screen, touch and begin speaking. Your search begins immediately. For more about Google Now, see Google Now. Note: If you’re writing a text message, touch to begin dictation mode. Your phone recognizes words you speak and enters them into your message. n Or, touch in the Google Now Search widget and speak.
Phone Calls With the Sprint National Network and your phone’s calling features, you can enjoy clear phone calls across the country. Note: During a call, your touchscreen goes dark to avoid accidental touches. To wake it up, move it away from your face or press the Power key. Make Phone Calls There are several convenient ways to place calls from your phone. From your phone dialpad, flick the screen left to access recently called numbers, frequently called numbers, and contacts with phone numbers.
4. To end the call, touch . Call from Recent Calls The Recent call list lets you quickly place calls to the latest incoming, outgoing, or missed numbers. 1. From home, touch 2. Touch to display recent calls. to display the entire Recent call list. 3. To call a number in the Recent call list, touch the contact name or number. l For additional options and call details, touch the contact photo or contact symbol on the left. Tip: You can clear the list of recent calls by touching Menu > Clear call log.
3. Touch a phone number to place a call. l You can also send a text message, an instant message, or an email from the contact page. l For additional information, see Contacts. Call a Number in a Text Message or Email Message While viewing a text message or email message, you can place a call to a number that is in the body of the message. 1. Touch Messaging, Gmail or Email. 2. Touch the message with the phone number, and then touch the phone number.
1. Press the Power key to turn on the screen. For more information, see Turn Your Screen On and Off. 2. Touch 3. Touch . . Enhanced 9-1-1 (E 9-1-1) Information This phone features an embedded Global Positioning System (GPS) chip necessary for utilizing E 91-1 emergency location services where available. When you place an emergency 9-1-1 call, the GPS feature of your phone seeks information to calculate your approximate location.
Answer an Incoming Call n To answer a call touch and drag to . Silence the Ringing Sound n To silence the ringer without rejecting the call, press the Volume key. Reject an Incoming Call n To send an incoming call to your voicemail, touch and drag to . Answer a Call with a Text Message You can automatically send a text message to an incoming caller. 1. To send an incoming call a text message, touch and drag to . 2.
1. Touch Apps > Voicemail > Menu >Settings. 2. Touch Personalize voicemail then touch OK and follow the instructions to: l Create a password (part of the standard voicemail). l Record your name. l Record your greeting. 3. When finished, return to the voicemail page (see step 1). 4. Touch the Welcome to Voicemail message on the screen to play a brief explanation of voicemail services.
Features available while reviewing messages include: n Timeline: Touch and drag the bar to move to different points in the message. l n Touch Pause to pause the playback. Touch Play to resume. Speaker Off/On: Turn the speakerphone on or off during playback. If the speakerphone feature was enabled within your Voicemail settings menu, the speakerphone will always be automatically enabled during voicemail playback.
l Help: Open online help. l Send feedback: Provide feedback about the app. Access the Voicemail Options The following steps help you use your voicemail account. 1. From home, touch Apps > Voicemail. 2. Touch in the left box to listen to the message or touch anywhere else in the message box to open the message details. Tip: For an explanation of all your options, from home, touch Apps Help > Setting up your Visual Voicemail.
l Display name to enter a name or a number that is attached to your outgoing voicemails as part of an identification string. l Speakerphone to set the default your messages to be read to you or muted. l Transcriptions displayed to have voicemails converted to text. l Themes to choose the color scheme for your phone. l View quick tips tutorial to view tips about Visual Voicemail. l Help to view the online help for Visual Voicemail. l Send feedback to provide feedback about the app.
Listen to Multiple Voicemail Messages When you are done listening to a voicemail message you can easily access other voicemail messages without returning to the main voicemail screen. n After listening to a voicemail, flick the screen left or right to move to the previous or next message. You can navigate through voicemail messages as frequently as you'd like. You can even move to the next or previous message before you're finished listening to the current one.
Set Voicemail Alerts You can choose a sound and vibration to alert you of a new voicemail. n To set voicemail alerts, from home, touch Apps and set one or both of the following: l Sound: Select a sound from the list. l Vibrate: Select the checkbox. > Phone > > > Settings > Voicemail Phone Call Options Your phone application provides many useful features to help you make the most of your calling experience. Note: Using a mobile phone or accessory while driving may cause distraction and may be illegal.
Note: Your phone includes a proximity sensor. When you hold the phone to your ear, the display goes dark to prevent accidental touches. When you move your phone away from your ear, the display lights up again. Warning: Because of higher volume levels, do not place the phone near your ear during speakerphone use. Retrieve Data from Your Old Phone Moving your photos, music, text and call history, photos, contacts and more from your old Android™ phone is quick and painless. Music has to be non-DRM to migrate.
Note: No data connection is needed after the application is loaded on the old phone. The Motorola Migrate app uses Wi-Fi to transfer the data. Tip: While you’re migrating, you can keep using your phone. Make a Conference Call With 3-way calling, you can talk to two people at the same time. When using this feature, the normal airtime rates will be charged for each of the two calls. n To start a conference call, call the first number. After the call connects, touch Add Call.
Contacts The Contacts application lets you store and manage contacts from a variety of sources, including contacts you enter and save directly in your phone as well as contacts synchronized with your Google™ Account. Get Started with Contacts Before using Contacts, it’s best to learn a few basics. Access Contacts There are a few ways to display Contacts. 1. Touch Apps > People. 2.
Contact groups you’ve created. l Tip: To search the list, begin typing a name. n Touch Menu to see options for your Contacts: l l l l l Contacts to display: Filter and sort your contact list. Clear Frequents: Clear the accumulated list of often accessed contacts. This option only appears for the Frequently Accessed screen. Import/export: Import, export, or share contacts from a memory card.
3. When you’re finished, touch DONE. Tip: To select a type (label) for a phone number, email address, or postal address (such as Mobile, Home, Work, etc.), touch to the right of the field and touch your selection. Save a Phone Number You can save a phone number to Contacts directly from the dialpad. 1. Touch Phone. 2. Enter the phone number and touch Menu > Add to contacts. 3. To add the number to a new contact, touch CREATE NEW CONTACT.
l Place on Home screen: A contact widget is added to your home screen so you can quickly access this contact. 3. To assign a picture to a contact, touch the picture icon at the top of the contact page and touch an option: l l Take photo: Your camera opens. Touch the touchscreen to take the photo. Touch to continue. Crop the photo (touch and drag the square to crop the picture) and touch OK. Choose photo from Gallery: Select the storage location in the list containing the photo you want.
1. Touch Apps > People. 2. Touch a contact, touch the number you want to call or touch to send a text message. Make Groups You can set up groups in Contacts for Group Connect calls or for quick messaging. 1. Touch. Apps > People > Groups . 2. Touch to start a new group. If you have more than one email account, choose the account you want to add a group. 3. Type a name for your group. 4. Type a name to search for people to add to the group.
Accounts and Messaging With Sprint service and your phone’s messaging capabilities, you have the opportunity to share information through many different channels and accounts, including Gmail (Google), personal and corporate email, text and multimedia messaging, social networking accounts, and Google Hangouts™. Set Up Accounts Set up your social networking and email messaging accounts.
6. Uncheck COMMUNICATION if you do not want to receive Google Play news and offers and touch . 7. Follow the prompts to read and accept the Google terms of service. 8. Touch I accept to establish the account and then type the authenticating text and touch . 9. Choose Get started to upgrade to Google+ or skip this option by touching Not now. 10. Touch Set Up credit card to add your credit card information to purchase items from Google Play or skip this option by touching Not now. 11.
l l l l l To view an email message: Touch a message in the list. To view more email messages: If the inbox is full, flick up the screen to view more messages and conversations. Read a new email message: Touch the unread message or the conversation with an unread message (just-arrived items appear in bold). Select messages and conversations: To select multiple emails in the list without opening the message, touch the messages.
4. Enter the email subject, and then compose your email. 5. After composing your message, touch to send it. Read and Reply to Gmail Messages 1. Touch Apps > Gmail. 2. Touch a message. l To Reply, touch and enter an additional message. l To Reply to all, touch Menu (located on top right on the message) > Reply all, and enter your message. l To Forward a message, touch Menu > Forward, enter or select recipients, and then enter your message. 3. After composing your message, touch to send it.
Add a Corporate Sync Account You can also add a corporate email account to your phone. 1. Touch Apps > Settings and scroll to Accounts. 2. Touch Add Account and then touch Corporate. 3. Enter the Corporate Exchange account details and then touch Next. 4. Select the type of information you want to synchronize and touch Done. Tip: You might need to enter your domain name with your user name (like domain/username).
View and Reply to Email 1. Touch Apps > Email. – or – for Gmail accounts, touch Apps > Gmail. 2. Touch the message you want to view. 3. Touch Reply on the email. to reply to the sender or touch > Reply all.to respond to all email addresses View Your Email Inbox Folders 1. Touch Apps > Email. – or – For Gmail accounts, touch Apps > Gmail. 2. Touch or in the top left corner and touch the email account you want to view and optionally touch a folder or category to see its contents.
For Gmail accounts, touch Apps > Gmail. 2. Select the account for which you want to edit settings. 3. Touch Menu > Settings and select General settings or the email account name to choose the option you need to change. Delete an Email Account You can stop an email account from displaying emails on your phone. Deleting the account from your phone does not close the email account. 1. Touch Apps > Settings, and select the account you want to delete. 2.
Compose Text Messages Quickly compose and send text messages on your phone. 1. Touch Apps > Messaging. 2. To open a new message box, touch Compose . 3. Add one or more recipients. You can: l l Enter phone numbers directly in the To box. If you’re sending the message to one or more phone numbers, separate the phone numbers with a comma. As you enter information, any matching phone numbers from your contacts list are displayed. Touch a suggested match to enter that number.
4. Touch the Type message box and compose your message. 5. Touch and select a media type from the list. 6. Touch Send . Save and Resume a Draft Message Any message you do not send is automatically saved as a draft unless you delete it. To resume composing the message: 1. In the messages list, touch the message marked with Draft that you want to resume editing. 2. When you are finished, touch Send .
l Roaming auto-retrieve: Automatically retrieve MMS messages while roaming. l Notifications: Allow phone message notifications appear in the status bar. l Sound: Choose a notification ringtone from a list. l Vibrate: Set your phone to vibrate when it receives a message. Text Message Reply When you ignore an incoming call, your phone can automatically send a text message to the caller. n To send a text message to an ignored call, slide up to from the list or create your own messages to select.
Hangouts Send and receive instant text messages, video, or a photo to one or a group of friends with Hangouts™. Note: You can flick the Hangouts screen right and left to switch from a list of friends or the details of previous Hangout sessions. 1. Touch Apps > Hangouts. 2. Touch to select a friend and add additional friends by touching Anyone else? 3. Touch OK when you have finished adding friends. 4. Touch Send Hangouts message and type your message. – or – Touch to start a video call.
Apps and Entertainment All your phone’s features are accessible through the Apps list. Note: Like all apps, downloaded apps use up memory, data, battery, and processing power—some more than others. For example, a simple battery level widget uses less than a streaming music player app. After installing an app, if you're not happy with how much memory, data, battery or processing power it's using, uninstall it. You can always install it again later. If you doubt the safety of an app, don't install it.
Google Play Store The Google Play Store is the place to go to find new apps for your phone. Choose from a wide variety of free and paid apps ranging from productivity apps to games. When you find an app you want, you can easily download and install it on your phone. Note: You must first connect to the Internet using your phone’s Wi-Fi, Sprint 4G, or data connection and you must set up a Google Account (see Set Up Accounts) in order to buy and download apps from the Google Play Store.
l l Flick the screen right and touch CATEGORIES in the scroll bar. Touch a category, for example, Games, Entertainment, or Finance. You can again use the top scroll bar to zoom in on your search. Search by name: Touch Search on any Google Play Store screen, type in the name or kind of app you’re looking for and then touch touch to start a Voice Search. Search to the right of the search box. Or, 4. Touch the app you want to install. Then, touch INSTALL (if app is free) or touch the price.
Managing Your Apps Access and control your apps as needed. n View your apps: From your home screen, touch Apps , then flick left to scroll through apps. To close the apps screen, touch Home or Back . n Uninstall apps: Touch Apps > Settings > Apps. Flick left to ALL, touch an app, then touch Disable or Uninstall in the top right (as available). Unlock an app: If an app locks up your phone as soon as you turn it on, restart your phone in Safe Mode: n l l l Turn off your phone, then turn it back on.
1. To allow your phone to download apps from any website, touch Apps Security > Unknown sources. 2. To launch the browser, touch Apps > > Settings > Chrome. 3. Find the app you want to download and touch the download link. Note: When installing an app, make sure you read the alerts that tell you what information the app will access. Set Your Location Sources You can set your phone to determine your location using GPS satellite signals (highly accurate, but uses battery power) or using the mobile network (less accurate, but conserves battery power). You can also turn off access to your location. See Location Settings.

Google Play Newsstand Read your favorite magazines and newspaper when and where you want. n Touch Apps > Play Newsstand. Sprint Zone Sprint Zone lets you manage your account, set up security for family members on your account and security for your phone. You can access News from Sprint, review Apps suggested by Sprint, get help, or find a Sprint store. n From home, touch Apps > Sprint Zone.

Web and Data Your phone’s data capabilities let you wirelessly access the Internet or your corporate network through a variety of connections, including Wi-Fi, Sprint 4G, Data Services (Sprint 3G Network), and Virtual Private Networks (VPN). The following topics address your phone’s data connections and the built-in Web browser. Additional data-related features can be found in Accounts and Messaging, Apps and Entertainment, and Tools and Calendar.
Wi-Fi Search and Connect To find networks in your range, follow the instructions below. 1. Touch Apps > Settings > Wi-Fi. 2. Turn on Wi-Fi to scan for available networks. If Wi-Fi is already on, touch Wi-Fi to see lists the list of networks your phone finds within range. Tip: To see your phone’s MAC address or other Wi-Fi details, touch Menu > Advanced. 3. Touch a network to connect. 4. If necessary, enter Network SSID, Security, and Wireless password, and touch Connect.
1. From home, touch Apps Wi-Fi Hotspot. > Settings > More > Tethering & portable hotspot > Setup 2. Touch a setting to modify it: l Network SSID: Enter a unique name for your hotspot. l Security: Select the type of security you want from the available options. l l Hotspot frequency band: Select a channel that minimizes potential interference. You may need to try different channels after your hotspot is active for a time. Password: Enter a unique password with at least 8 characters for your hotspot.
Select Links When you touch a link in the browser, your phone outlines it and goes to that page. If you touch and hold the link, your phone shows a list of options, such as Open in new tab or Save link. See Browser Options Touch Menu with the browser open to choose these options. Options Description New tab Open a new tab. New incognito tab Pages you view in this tab are not added to your browser or search history. Bookmarks See your bookmarks.
l l l l Save passwords: Lists all the sites for which you have stored an access password. Privacy: Manage the browser’s navigation and network settings. Accessibility: Set browser accessibility features such as comfortable text size and forced zoom. For additional Accessibility options and features, see Accessibility Settings. Content settings: Manage Internet features such as blocking pop-ups, accepting cookies, and clearing cached (stored) website data.
l l Create or open bookmarks: Open the address bar (if you do not see the address bar at the top, drag the page down) then touch Menu > Bookmarks. Mobile sites: Some websites automatically show you a “mobile” version of their page—if you want to show the standard computer versions of all websites, touch Menu > Request desktop site. l Reload: If a page doesn’t load correctly, try touching . Clear history: In the browser, touch Menu > Settings > Content settings > Website settings.
Camera and Video Use your phone to take and share sharp pictures and videos. Take Photos Take that family photo, and post it online for everyone to enjoy. Tip: Even when your phone is asleep, twist your wrist twice, quickly, to launch camera anytime. To take a photo: 1. Touch Apps > Camera. l Drag up or down with one finger to zoom the photo. l For a widescreen view, turn the phone sideways. l Touch to switch the camera lens to the front to take a picture of yourself. 2.
For a quick burst of multi shot photos, touch and hold the screen. Note: You can also press the Volume keys to snap photos. A single press snaps one photo. Press and hold for multiple photos. During a video recording, press the Volume keys to snap still photos. After you take a photo, the photo is stored and you are ready to snap another. If you want to quickly check your last shots from within the camera mode, swipe the camera image left to open the Gallery. Touch to return to the camera.

4. Touch to return to the Gallery. Share Photos and Videos Send your photos to friends, family or to your favorite social media from the Gallery. 1. From home, touch Apps > Gallery > Menu . 2. Touch Camera roll, Timeline, or Albums and locate your image, video, or photo. 3. Touch the photo, screenshot, or video. 4. Touch Share > See all and then touch a sharing mode such as Bluetooth, Gmail, Facebook, or Messaging.
Tools and Calendar Learn how to use many of your phone’s productivity-enhancing features. Calendar Create and manage events, meetings, and appointments. n From home, touch Apps > Calendar. Touch the date to view your calendar events by Day, Week, Month, or Agenda. When you highlight an event, more details appear. Tip: You can set up multiple calendars by using your Gmail™ account so you can access them from your phone wherever you go. Add Calendar Events 1. From any view, touch Menu > New event.
Manage Calendar Events n To edit an event, touch it, and then touch . When you’re done, touch DONE. n To delete an event, touch it, and then touch n To find a specific event, touch Menu > Search and enter in the event name. Touch touch the event to view details. and OK. and Tip: Add a Calendar widget to your home screen. Touch Apps > WIDGETS (at the top), then touch and hold the Calendar widget to add it to your home screen. Clock Use your phone as an alarm clock.
n From home, touch Apps > Calculator. Your calculator has basic and advanced views. n To change views, touch Menu > Advanced panel or Basic panel. n To clear history, touch Menu > Clear history. Quickoffice With the Quickoffice® app, you can edit or create documents, spreadsheets, or presentations. n From home, touch Apps > Quickoffice. Quickoffice Options The following options are available in the Quickoffice app.
Save Your Files To save a file the first time or to change a previously save file’s location: 1. Touch 2. Touch > and then touch Save as. and then select a location of Recent, Drive, Downloads, or Internal storage. 3. Touch the filename to type a new name or accept the default name and then touch SAVE. Quickly save a file in the same phone location and same file name: n Touch > .
l Go to sprint.com/support, search for your phone model, and check the “Software” links. If an update is available, follow the installation instructions. Update Your Profile This option allows you to automatically update your online user profile information. If you choose to change your user name and select a new one online, you must then update the user name on your phone. 1. Touch Apps > Settings > System Update > Update Profile. 2. Follow the on-screen instructions.
TalkBack Use TalkBack to read out loud your navigation, your selections, even your books. TalkBack reads all of the text you type by default. n To turn on TalkBack, touch Apps at the top to turn it to . > Settings > Accessibility > TalkBack, then touch Note:You might need to download text-to-speech software (data charges may apply). TalkBack features make your phone more useable: n Menus and screens: Touch an item in a menu or screen and your phone speaks the name.
Tip: When you turn on TalkBack for the first time, your phone asks if you want to Enable Explore by Touch? Touch OK to turn it on. Explore by touch changes some touch gestures slightly so that the location of your touches can be read out loud. n Touch something on the screen to hear a description or text readout. n Double-touch anywhere on the screen to open or activate the last touched item. n Swipe using two fingers to scroll through lists or between screens.
l l Volumes opens sliders that allow you to set different volumes for music, video, games or other media, ringtone and notifications, and alarms. Vibrate when ringing determines whether your phone vibrates for incoming calls (even if the ringer is silent). Zoom Get a closer look at the screen with a few simple options. You can zoom in on maps, Web pages, and photos, magnify the screen with taps, and increase the size of text throughout your phone. You can also modify your browser for easier reading.
Touchscreen and Keys You can optionally hear or feel when you touch or lock the screen. n To hear or feel when you touch the screen, from home, touch Apps and choose from the following options: > Settings > Sound l To hear screen touches (click), select Touch sounds. l To hear when you lock or unlock the screen (click), select Screen lock sound. l To feel screen keyboard touches (vibrate), select Vibrate on touch.
TTY TTY (also known as a TDD or Text Telephone) is a telecommunications device that allows people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or who have speech or language disabilities to communicate by telephone. Your phone is compatible with select TTY devices. Please check with the manufacturer of your TTY device to ensure that it is compatible with digital cell phones. Your phone and TTY device will connect via a special cable that plugs into your phone’s headset jack.
Hearing Aid Settings If you wear a hearing aid, select this setting for compatibility. n Touch Phone > Menu >Settings > Hearing Aids. Braille Combine your Braille display with TalkBack for Braille and speech feedback. 1. To download the BrailleBack app from the Google Play™ Store, touch Apps > Play Store , and install it on your phone. 2. Touch Apps > Settings > Accessibility > BrailleBack. 3. Turn on your Braille display and set it to the Bluetooth pairing mode. 4.
– or – From home, swipe status bar down, touch and then touch Bluetooth to toggle it on or off. Note: To extend battery life, turn off Bluetooth power when not in use. Connect New Devices Use the Bluetooth settings menu to connect new devices to your phone. Note: This feature requires an optional accessory. Standard Method To connect with a new device, you need to pair with it. You only need to do this once for each device. To connect again, just turn on the device. 1.
Note: Using a mobile device or accessory while driving may cause distraction and may be illegal. Always obey the laws and drive safely. NFC Method You can also use Near Field Communication (NFC) to pair an NFC enabled Bluetooth device to your phone. See NFC Settings. 1. To turn NFC on, touch Apps > Settings > More… > NFC. 2. Make sure your phone’s screen is on, and then touch the Bluetooth device to your phone’s NFC tag location, which is located on the back of your phone.

Near Field Communication (NFC) Technology Near Field Communication (NFC) technology is a short-range, wireless technology that lets you quickly and wirelessly exchange information between your phone and other NFC-enabled smartphones, smart accessories, and NFC-enabled access points.
Android Beam With Android Beam™, you can beam information, such as browser pages, YouTube™ videos, and contacts, by touching your phone to another NFC capable device. To turn Android Beam on or off: n From home, touch Apps > Settings > More… > Android Beam > ON or OFF. To share content by using Android Beam: 1. Open the screen that contains the map page or browser page you want to share. 2. Touch the back of your phone to the back of the other device. 3.
4. Drag and drop files between your computer and your phone’s memory card folders. When you’re done, use “Safely Remove Hardware” on your computer before disconnecting the USB cable.
Sprint Worldwide Wireless Service With your phone and global roaming service from Sprint Worldwide℠ Wireless Service, you can make phone calls and use wireless data services around the globe on compatible CDMA and GSM/UMTS networks. Activate Sprint Worldwide Service on Your Account Before using your phone in global roaming mode, you must activate Sprint Worldwide service. To activate Sprint Worldwide service: n Chat with or email an international support rep by visiting sprint.

Make Calls Using Plus (+) Code Dialing Placing calls from one country to another country is simple with the Plus (+) Code Dialing feature.

International Data Roaming Sprint Worldwide Wireless Service can also keep you connected via email and Web browsing in countries where Sprint offers data service. Data services are available on both CDMA and GSM/UMTS networks; check sprint.com/sww to determine the services available where you are traveling.
Note: Be sure you have the Allow GSM Data option checked. Access Email and Data Services on CDMA Networks If data service is available on a CDMA network, then you only need to set the phone to CDMA, you will not need to select the specific carrier. Selecting a specific carrier is only necessary for providers on the GSM network. If your phone has automatically selected a GSM network while traveling, then you will need to set the phone to CDMA to access CDMA data services. (See Enable Global Roaming Mode.
numeric code, turn your phone off, and contact Sprint Customer Service. Wrong PIN You have entered an incorrect SIM PIN number. You have only three attempts to enter your PIN. After a third unsuccessful attempt, your phone will be locked and you will have to call Sprint Customer Service to have it unlocked. Sprint sets the default to PIN off; if you elect to enable the PIN then you will need to contact Sprint for the default PIN and PUK. PIN Blocked.
While traveling outside the United States: n In GSM mode: touch and hold and then dial 1-817-698-4199, option 3. n In CDMA mode: enter the country code and then dial 1-817-698-4199, option 3. There is no charge for this call from your wireless phone. From a landline phone when outside the United States: Sprint Worldwide Customer Support can be reached from a landline phone at 1-817-698-4199, option 3. Access or connection fees may apply.
Settings The following topics provide an overview of items you can change using your phone’s Settings menus. Wireless & Network Settings This group of settings lets you control your phone’s wireless network settings, Wi-Fi settings, Bluetooth, roaming, and more. n To quickly see frequently viewed settings, swipe down the top of your screen to open your Notifications and touch n . Access the Settings menus from the home screen by touching Apps > Settings. Note: Your quick settings may look different.
n From home, touch Apps > Settings > Bluetooth. Data Usage Settings You can track the amount of data uploaded and downloaded by your smartphone. n To show which apps are using the most data, from the home screen, touch Apps > Settings > Data usage. Flick up the screen to see the individual apps with their data usage below. The graph shows data use on your mobile network. Below the graph, apps are listed from highest to lowest data use.
Airplane Mode Setting Airplane Mode turns off all your wireless connections and allows you to use many of your phone’s features when you are in an airplane or in any other area where calls and data are prohibited. When you set your phone to Airplane Mode, it cannot send or receive any calls or access online information. n Touch and hold the Power key and then touch Airplane mode. – or – From home, touch Apps > Settings > More… > Airplane mode.
Tethering and Portable Hotspot Settings You can wirelessly access the Internet or your corporate network through a variety of connections. Share your phone's mobile data connection with a USB connection or configure it as a portable hotspot. See Wi-Fi. Note: You must subscribe to the Tethering and Hotspot data service to use these features. n From home, touch Apps then select an option.
n From home, touch Apps > Settings > More… > Mobile networks to select the roaming features you would like to activate. Call Guard Your phone has two ways of alerting you when you are roaming off the Nationwide Sprint Network, including the on-screen roaming icon and Call Guard. Call Guard requires an extra step before you can place or answer a roaming call. (This extra step is not required when you make or receive calls on the Nationwide Sprint Network.) To turn Call Guard on or off: 1.
Tip: Select the emergency alert sound by touching Apps Emergency tone. > Settings > Sound > Device Settings Change your phone to match your personal needs and use. Active Display Settings See messages, calls, and more on your phone, no matter what screen you're on. Your sleeping phone can keep you up to date with battery-friendly info. For more, see Active Notifications. Tip: Your phone has more information about Active Display. From home, touch Apps Settings > Active Display and then touch Learn More.
l Commands while locked: While locked, allow your phone to call or check voicemail, read your notifications to you, and choose which commands are valid like checking the weather or updating a calendar. l Launch Phrase Sound: Enable a launch sound. l Auto Speakerphone: Set default for speakerphone use. l l Confirm before Calling: Verify a voice activated phone call request before your phone places it. Volume. Audio Effects To fine tune your media experience, you can enhance your phone’s audio output with preset audio profiles. n From home, touch Apps l l > Settings > Sound > Audio Effects and then touch ON. WIRED STEREO: Configure options for headsets, movies, and videos by choosing 3D stereo, Home theater, or live stage. SPEAKER: Configure options for speaker output only by choosing Equalizer options of Extreme bass, Bass punch, Balanced, Brilliant treble, or Vocalizer.
Note: When you select the default notification sound, a sample of the sound plays to help you choose. Dial Pad Touch Tones When making a call, you can choose to hear or silence the tones as you touch the dialpad. n From home, touch Apps > Settings > Sound and then select Dial pad touch tones and then select or clear Touch sounds. Touch Sounds When selecting options on your phone, you can choose to hear or silence the faint sound as you touch the screen.
Brightness You can control the brightness of the display. n From home, touch Apps bar. > Settings > Display > Brightness and slide dimmer switch Wallpaper Apply a new wallpaper to your home screen. n Touch and hold an empty spot on your home screen. – or – From home, touch Apps > Settings > Display > Wallpaper. – or – Touch Gallery and choose an image or photo for your wallpaper and touch . > Set picture as > Wallpaper (Gallery).
l l l Clock: Show the time on an analog or digital clock with an option to dim the screen for night time use. Colors: A blending of muted colors drifts across the screen. This option is not modifiable. Google Photos: Shows photos, screenshots, or both from your phone. Choose only or add images saved to your Google+ account. l Photo Frame: Adds a frame to photos, screenshots, or both stored on your phone. l Photo Table: Shows random multiple photos, screenshots, or both stored on your phone.
The total space is shown and the INTERNAL STORAGE bar shows the relative usage, which is color coded to the list below it. Each data category below the bar shows the data use for each. n From home, touch Apps or modify related data. l l > Settings > Storage and then touch any listed category to see Available: Shows the available space (you cannot change this). Apps (app data and media content): Lists DOWNLOADED, RUNNING or ALL apps depending on your selection.

You can set up Google Wallet to pay your Sprint bill. For more, see Create a Google Wallet™ Account. Follow the steps to set up Tap & pay: n From home, touch Apps > Settings > Tap & pay and then touch Learn more. Note: You can use any secure payment app to pay for purchases (where available). Look for the NFC logo to confirm that you can make a mobile payment. Touch the back of your phone to the payment device to pay for your purchase.
n From home, touch Apps > Settings > Location > Google Location Reporting and then for each account, touch Location Reporting to turn each Off or On. Security Settings The Security settings menus let you set phone security, lock codes, passwords, administrator settings, and more. Screen Lock You can increase the security of your phone by creating a screen lock.
Face Unlock Use face recognition software to unlock your phone: Note: This feature is less secure than a pattern, PIN, or password. 1. Touch Apps > Settings > Security > Screen lock > Face Unlock > Set it up. 2. Hold your phone at eye level, look into the front camera, and follow the instructions on the screen. 3. When the face capture is complete, you will be prompted to choose a pattern or PIN as a backup security measure you can use when the phone cannot see your face clearly.
If you fail to enter the correct PIN after five attempts, you will be prompted to wait for 30 seconds before you can try again. Disable the Screen Lock n From home, touch Apps lock > None. l > Settings > Security > Screen Lock > Change screen Draw your unlock screen pattern or enter password or a numeric PIN and then confirm it. Note: If you forget your pattern, password, or your PIN, contact Sprint.
Caution: If you forget your encryption code, you cannot recover the data stored on your phone. Encrypting your files can take an hour or more. Leave your phone plugged in, and be careful not to interrupt the process. To encrypt your phone and require a PIN or password whenever you turn on your phone: n From home, touch Apps > Settings > Security > Encrypt phone. Set Up SIM Card Lock To set a SIM card PIN that you must enter when you turn on your phone: n From home, touch Apps option.
Caution: Enabling this option means that you agree to be responsible for any loss of data or damages that result from downloading files not known to your phone. Verify Apps Allow your phone to warn you before downloading any apps that might cause harm. n From home, touch Apps > Settings > Security and then touch Verify apps. Note: For more, from home touch Apps > Google Settings > Verify Apps.

n From home, touch Apps > Settings > Language & input > keyboard to set the following options: l l l l l to the right of Google Input languages: Choose an input language. GENERAL: Add sound, vibration, or visual feedback when typing, enable voice input on keyboards, and choose to capitalize the first letter of each sentence. TEXT CORRECTION: Add new words, block offensive words and customize corrections. GESTURE TYPING: Determine keyboard behaviors when using gesturing to speed up typing.
n Touch Apps > Settings > Language & input > Text-to-speech output and choose the following settings: l Google Text-to-speech Settings: Touch l Speech rate: Choose a comfortable speed for spoken text output. l l . Manage installation of voice data. Listen to an example: Play a short demonstration of speech synthesis that matches the settings you select in Speech rate. Default language status: Shows the current phone language setting.
n From home, touch Apps data. > Settings > Backup & reset > and then touch Backup my Backup Account Choose the account associated with your phone that you want to back up. n From home, touch Apps > account to choose an account. Settings > Backup & reset > and then touch Backup Automatic Restore Choose to restore all app settings and data when you reinstall an app. n From home, touch Apps restore.
Accounts Settings The Accounts menu lets you add, delete, and manage all email, social networking, picture and video sharing accounts. You can also synchronize your accounts with other devices. For more information, see Accounts and Messaging. Set Up a New Account 1. From home, touch Apps > Settings > Add account. 2. Touch an account type: l Corporate, Email, or Google. Note: Your set up Facebook account, is also listed here. 3. Enter your account information and touch Next.
l o Phone Search: Choose the apps that are searched for you. o Voice: Customize the settings that control voice search and voice commands. o Accounts & privacy: Modify settings like Search engine storage, Web History and Google location. o Notifications: Turn on Google Now notifications and customize its update alerts. Location: Touch Location and then touch ON to activate on items on the page. o Recent Location Requests: Touch any app to see its app data or clear its cache.

Update Motorola Software Check anytime to automatically download software updates. n From home, touch Apps > Settings > System update > Update Motorola Software. UICC Unlock A Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) aids in keeping the integrity and security of personal data saved to your phone. A UICC also identifies the phone to its carrier.
n From home, touch Apps > Settings > Accessibility. TalkBack Use TalkBack to read out loud what you touch, what options you choose, and content on the Web sites or downloads. You can select what you want to hear and how you hear it.
