battery 4 install battery 1 2 charge battery New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before you can use your phone, you need to install and charge the battery as described below. Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles. To charge using the charger: 3 1 Insert the charger into the USB connector on your phone as shown. 2 Plug the other end of the charger into the appropriate electrical outlet.
3 When your phone indicates Charge Complete, remove the charger. Tip: You can safely leave the charger connected to the phone after charging is complete. This will not damage the battery. When you charge the battery, the battery level indicator in the upper right corner of the screen shows how much of the charging process is complete. At least one segment of the battery level indicator must be visible to ensure full phone functionality while charging.
• When charging your battery, keep it near room temperature. • When storing your battery, keep it uncharged in a cool, dark, dry place. • Never expose batteries to temperatures below -10°C (14°F) or above 45°C (113°F). Always take your phone with you when you leave your vehicle. • It is normal for batteries to gradually wear down and require longer charging times. If you notice a change in your battery life, it is probably time to purchase a new battery.

Bluetooth® connections turn Bluetooth power on/off Your phone supports Bluetooth connections. You can connect your phone to a Bluetooth headset or car kit, or connect to another device to exchange and synchronize files. Set Bluetooth power to be on whenever your phone is on. Your phone currently supports the following Bluetooth profiles: 1 Scroll to Power and press the Change key.

TTY operation set TTY mode You can use an optional TTY device with your phone to send and receive calls. You must plug the TTY device into the phone’s headset jack and set the phone to operate in one of three TTY modes. ù When you set your phone to a TTY mode, it operates in that mode whenever the TTY device is connected. Note: Use a TSB-121 compliant cable (provided by the TTY manufacturer) to connect the TTY device to your phone. Note: Set the phone to level 4 (middle setting) for proper operation.

Regular Tap method cycles through the letters and numbers of the key you press. If you want a different word (such as progress), continue pressing keypad keys to enter the remaining characters. iTAP® method • Press a keypad key repeatedly to cycle through its characters. iTAP predictive text entry lets you enter a word using one key press per letter. This can be faster than Tap method, because your phone combines the key presses into common words. • Press S left or right to move the flashing cursor to the left or right in a text message.
If you want a different word (such as Progress), continue pressing keypad keys to enter the remaining characters. enter words Press * to enter the highlighted combination when it spells a word. A space is automatically inserted after the word. In a text entry screen, press * to switch entry methods. An indicator tells you which method is active (see page 36). If iTAP method is not available as the Primary or Secondary entry method, see page 35.

Note: You must open your phone’s flip to activate the speakerphone. 1 Press a key one or more times to show possible symbol combinations at the bottom of the screen. 2 Scroll left or right to highlight the symbol you want to enter. 3 Press Select to enter the highlighted symbol.
Note: Closing the flip while using the speakerphone does not end the call. 2 Press and hold the smart/speakerphone key to turn on the speakerphone. The speakerphone stays on until you press the smart/speakerphone key again or turn off the phone. You will see Spkrphone Off. 3 Enter the number you want to call and press N. You can also set your phone to turn off the speakerphone automatically after 20 seconds of inactivity: 4 When the call connects, close the flip and continue your conversation.
change a code, PIN, or password Your phone’s four-digit unlock code is originally set to the last four digits of your phone number. The six-digit security code is originally set to 000000. Your service provider may reset these codes before you receive your phone. If your service provider has not reset these codes, you should change them to prevent others from accessing your personal information. The unlock code must contain four digits, and the security code must contain six digits.
lock Find it: Press s > w Settings > Security > Phone Lock > Lock Now or Automatic Lock Both Phone Lock options require you to enter the unlock code before completing your selection. unlock At the Enter Unlock Code prompt, enter your unlock code and press Ok to unlock your phone. if you forget a code, PIN, or password Note: Your phone’s four-digit unlock code is originally set to the last four digits of your phone number, and the six-digit security code is originally set to 000000.
customize ring styles & alerts set alerts Your phone rings and/or vibrates to notify you of an incoming call or to signal certain other events. This ring or vibration is called an alert. Your phone includes alerts for Calls, Inbox, Voicemail, Alarms, Data Calls, Fax Calls, and Reminders. set a style You can specify a detailed setting for each type of alert: Find it: Press s > w Settings > Ring Styles Find it: Press s > w Settings > Ring Styles 1 Scroll to Style Detail and press Change or s.
Note: Your phone plays a sample of each highlighted detail setting as you scroll through them. Find it: Press s > w Settings > Personalize > Wallpaper To select a wallpaper image: answer options 1 Scroll to Picture and press Change to view available pictures. You can use these alternative methods to answer an incoming call. 2 Scroll to the picture you want and press the center key s.

backlight Set the amount of time that the screen and keypad backlights remain on, or turn off backlights to extend battery life.
Find it: Press s > w Settings > Location 1 When prompted, enter the location code. 2 Scroll to Location On or 911 Only. 3 Press Select to select the setting. AGPS limitations & tips Your phone uses Assisted Global Positioning System (AGPS) satellite signals to estimate your location. If your phone cannot find strong satellite signals, your AGPS might be slower, less accurate, or it might not work at all.
conserve battery When Battery Save is activated, your phone automatically turns off the keypad backlight when it detects that enough ambient light is available.
calls For basic instructions on how to make and answer calls, see page 12. change active line Change the active phone line to make and receive calls from your other phone number. Find it: Press s > m Phone Status > Active Line automatic redial When you receive a busy signal, your phone displays Call Failed, Number Busy. With automatic redial, your phone automatically redials the number for four minutes.
Press N or RETRY to activate automatic redial. 1 Enter the emergency number. 2 Press N to call the emergency number. silence a call alert You can silence the alert for an incoming call before answering the call. Press the volume key up or down to silence the alert for the incoming call. emergency calls Your service provider programs one or more emergency phone numbers, such as 911, that you can call under any circumstances, even when your phone is locked. Note: Emergency numbers vary by country.
• Your local emergency response center might not process AGPS location information. For details, contact your local authorities. For best results: • Go outside and away from underground locations, covered vehicles, structures with metal or concrete roofs, tall buildings, and foliage. Indoor performance might improve if you move closer to windows, but some window sun shielding films can block satellite signals.
Press Options to open the Options menu and perform various operations on the entry (see the table below). or Press s to view entry details. 1-touch dial To call Contacts entries 1 through 9, press and hold the single-digit speed dial number for one second. voicemail Voicemail messages that you receive are stored on the network. To listen to your messages, you must call your voicemail phone number. Note: Your service provider may include additional information about using this feature. Find it: Press s > e Messaging > Voicemail Press N (send key) to call your voicemail phone number.

call times & costs Network connection time is the elapsed time from the moment you connect to your service provider’s network to the moment you end the call by pressing O. This time includes busy signals and ringing. The amount of network connection time you track on your resettable timer may not equal the amount of time for which you are billed by your service provider.
