Optional Features This label identifies an optional network or subscription-dependent feature that may not be offered by all service providers in all geographical areas.
Battery Tips Battery life depends on the network, signal strength, temperature, features, and accessories you use. • New batteries or batteries stored for a long time may take more time to charge. • When charging your battery, keep it near room temperature. • When storing your battery, keep it uncharged in a cool, dark, dry place, such as a refrigerator. Getting Started • Always use Motorola Original batteries and chargers.
Installing the Battery Getting Started Your phone is designed to use only Motorola Original batteries and accessories. The warranty does not cover damage caused by non-Motorola batteries and/or chargers. Action 1 Remove the battery from its protective packaging. 2 If necessary, push down the battery door release latch and lift the door off of the phone. Release Latch 3 Insert the battery, printed arrow first, under the tab at the top of the battery compartment and push down.
Charging the Battery New batteries are shipped partially charged. Before you can use your phone, you need to install and charge the battery as described below. Some batteries perform best after several full charge/discharge cycles. Release Tab 040100o 2 Plug the other end of the travel charger into the appropriate electrical outlet. 3 When your phone indicates Charge Complete, press the release tab and remove the travel charger.
Turning Your Phone On Getting Started Action 1 Open your phone. 2 Press and hold P for 2 seconds to turn on the phone. 010403o 3 If necessary, enter your 4-digit unlock code and press OK (+).
Making a Call Action 1 Press the keypad keys to dial the phone number 2 Press N make the call. 3 Press O or close the flip to end the call When you receive a call, your phone rings and/or vibrates and displays an incoming call message. Changing the Convertible Covers Getting Started You can replace the flip cover and battery cover on your phone to personalize its appearance. Matching front and back cover sets are available in a variety of colors and designs. Your phone is designed to be used only with Motorola Original accessories. See your Motorola retailer for these convertible covers. Remove a Flip Cover Action 1 Open your flip phone half way. 2 Press in the tiny silver release button.
Attach a Flip Cover Action 1 Close your flip phone. Getting Started 2 Line up the ridges on o each side of the 02 01 04 cover so they align with the slots on the phone. 3 Slide the cover onto the phone until it snaps into place.

The e (menu) indicator indicates that you can press the Menu key (M) to enter the main menu. Labels at the bottom corners of the display show the current soft key functions. Press the left soft key (-) or right soft key (+) to perform the function indicated by the left or right soft key label. The following status indicators can display: 3. Push to Talk 2. 4. Roam Indicator Shows that your phone is seeking or using another network system outside your home network. Note: When the roam indicator displays, you can still make and receive PTT calls when you are in the 1X coverage area and connected to the PTT network. 5. Mesage Waiting Indicator Indicates when you receive a voicemail or text message. Learning to Use Your Phone 6. Battery Level Indicator Vertical bars show the battery charge level.

Move left and right to change feature settings, navigate the datebook, and edit text. Using Menus From the home screen, press M to enter the main menu. Press S to scroll to and highlight a menu feature icon in the main menu. Select More (f) to see additional menu features. The following icons represent features that may appear in the main menu, depending on your service provider and service subscription options.

Entering Text Some features require you to enter information. CANCEL displays when you enter information. BACK displays when you scroll through a list of selections to enter or edit information. The message center lets you compose and send text messages.
Choosing a Text Entry Method Multiple text entry methods make it easy for you to enter names, numbers, and messages. Press M > Entry Mode or M, when e displays in any text entry screen to select one of the following entry methods: Primary Numeric Symbol Secondary Setting Up a Text Entry Method Press M > Entry Setup from any text entry screen. Select Primary Setup or Secondary Setup, and choose: iTAP Tap Tap Extended None Let the phone predict each word as you press keys (see page 26).
Using Capitalization Press 0 in any text entry screen to change text case.
Using Tap Method This is the standard method for entering text on your phone (depending on "Entry Setup" page 21). Regular Tap method cycles through the letters and number of the key you press. Tap Extended method also cycles through additional symbols as shown in the “Character Chart” on page 25. To select a letter, number, or symbol enter remaining characters 3 OK (+) Tip: Press SELECT (+) to accept a word completion.Press S right to insert a space.
When you enter text with Tap or Tap Extended method, the soft key functions change. Character displays at insertion point. Character Chart Use this chart as a guide for entering characters with Tap Extended method. 1 Note: This chart may not reflect the exact character set available on your phone. • The first character of every sentence is capitalized. If necessary, press S down to force the character to lowercase before the cursor moves to the next position. • If you enter or edit information and do not want to save the changes, press O to exit without saving. Using iTAP™ Method Learning to Use Your Phone iTAP software provides a predictive text entry method that lets you enter a word using 1 keypress per letter.
Press G to delete 1 character at a time. Press and hold G to delete multiple characters, whole words, or the entire message. Entering Words In a text entry screen, you can press # to switch entry methods. An indicator tells you which method is active (see page 22). If iTAP method is not available as the Primary or Secondary entry method, see page 21.
Using Numeric Method In a text entry screen, press # to switch entry methods until the 12 (numeric) indicator displays. Press keypad keys to enter the numbers you want. When you finish entering numbers, press # to switch to another entry method. Using Symbol Method Learning to Use Your Phone In a text entry screen, press # to switch entry methods until the [ (symbol) indicator displays.

Deleting Letters and Words Place the cursor to the right of the text you want to delete, and then: Action Press DELETE (G) once to delete one letter at a time. Press and hold DELETE (G) to delete multiple characters, whole words, or the entire message. Learning to Use Your Phone Using the Speakerphone When you turn on your phone’s internal speakerphone, you can talk without holding the phone to your ear. Press H and hold for 1 second to turn the speakerphone on or off during a call.
If your service provider has not reset these codes, we recommend that you change them to prevent others from accessing your personal information. The unlock code must contain 4 digits, and the security code must contain 6 digits. To change the unlock code: Find the Feature M > Settings > Security > Phone Lock> Unlock Code Locking and Unlocking Your Phone To use a locked phone, you must enter the unlock code.
Unlocking Your Phone Tip: Your phone’s unlock code is originally set to 1234. Many service providers reset the unlock code to the last 4 digits of your phone number.

For more information about using the phonebook, see page 69.
Recording a Voice Name When creating a phonebook entry, scroll to Voice Name and press RECORD (+). Press and release the voice key and say the entry’s name (within 2 seconds). When prompted, press and release the voice key and repeat the name. Press DONE (-) to store the voice name. Dialing a Number Press M > More > Phonebook > entry to call. Learning to Use Your Phone Voice Dialing a Number 34 Press and release the voice key, and say the entry’s name (within 2 seconds).
Push to Talk (PTT) Calls The Push to Talk (PTT) feature lets you talk walkie-talkie style with other Push to Talk subscribers. Push to Talk (PTT) connectivity requires PTT-compatible phones.
Barge Calls Barge calls are the method by which someone receives a Push to Talk call by hearing an audible tone immediately followed by the voice of the originator. Viewing Your Push to Talk Contacts List ( yÉ PTT Contacts g John g Mary From the home screen, press the Push to Talk button (+). EXIT M ALERT Sorting Your Push to Talk Contacts List Push to Talk (PTT) Calls You can sort your contacts list by name or by status. When sorted by name, the list displays in alphabetical order.
Using the Speakerphone During Push to Talk Calls There are several ways to turn on or turn off the speakerphone during Push to Talk calls. Action Press H and hold for 1 second to turn it on or off, depending on the current setting. Spkrphone On displays on the home screen when the speakerphone is on. Press SPEAKER (+), when displayed during a call to turn it on. Press T (+), when displayed during a call to turn it off. For privacy, turn off the speakerphone and use the earpiece for listening.
PTT Call Tones The following table describes the call tones sent and received during Push to Talk calls. Note: These tones can not be customized. Tone PTT Alert Incoming Barge Call Connected OK to Talk Push to Talk (PTT) Calls Floor Unavailable 38 Busy Call Refused or Unavailable Sent or Received When you receive a PTT Alert call To select a PTT Alert ring style, see page 48.
Basic Push to Talk Instructions The following table describes actions during Push to Talk calls. Note: The actions are not necessarily in the exact order of events. Action From the idle display, press and release + to display the PTT Contacts list. Press S in the contacts list to highlight a name or a number to call. Press ALERT (+), then press and release + to start an Alert call with an individual. During a call, press and hold +, and wait for the OK to Talk tone to talk.
Making Push to Talk Calls When U displays at the top of the screen, you can make and receive Push to Talk Calls. Note: If your phone is seeking or using another network system outside your home network, ; replaces U on the display. You can still make and receive Push to Talk calls even when you are out of range of your home network. Push to Talk (PTT) Calls Making a Barge Call from the Push to Talk Contacts List 40 Action 1 Press + to display the PTT Contacts list.
Making a Barge Call from the Idle Display Using the Keypad Action 1 From the idle display, enter the number of the individual to call. 2 3 4 5 Note: As you enter the number, it is compared against entries in the PTT Contacts list for a match. Press and hold +. After the OK to Talk tone, continue to hold + to talk. Release + to give floor control to the individual. Press EXIT (-) or O to end the call. Answering an Alert Call When you receive an Alert call, the Alert Tone sounds and Alert from (name or number) displays. Action 1 Press ANSWER (+), then press and hold +. 2 After the OK to Talk tone, continue to hold + to talk. 3 Release + to give floor control to the individual. 4 Press EXIT (-) or (O) end the call. Answering an Alert Call When the Flip is Closed Push to Talk (PTT) Calls When you receive an Alert call, the Alert Tone sounds and Alert from (name or number) appears on the external display.
Canceling an Incoming Push to Talk Call Action During the call alert tone, press O or IGNORE (-). Missed Alert Push to Talk Call When an Alert call is missed, Missed Call displays. Note: Your phone does not notify you of missed Barge calls. Action 1 Press View (+) to display the Received Calls list. 2 Press S to scroll through the list. 3 Press N to return the call.
Setting Up Your Phone Storing Your Name and Phone Number Setting Up Your Phone To store or edit your name and phone number information: Find the Feature M > Settings > Phone Status > My Tel. Numbers Shortcut: Press M # from the home screen to edit your name and phone number. If you do not know your phone number, contact your service provider. Setting the Time and Date You must set the time and date to use the datebook.
To set a ring style: Find the Feature Press 1 S 2 SELECT (+) M > Settings > Ring Styles > Style To scroll to the ring style select the ring style Setting Answer Options You can use additional, alternative methods to answer an incoming call. Multi-Key Open to Answer answer by pressing any key answer by opening the flip Setting Up Your Phone Each ring style contains settings for specific event alerts, ringer ID, and ringer and keypad volume.
Setting Display Color Select the color palette that your phone uses to display indicators, highlights, and soft key labels. Find the Feature M > Settings > Personalize > Color Style Setting a Greeting Setting Up Your Phone Set a greeting that displays when the phone is turned on. Find the Feature M > Settings > Personalize > Greeting Setting a Banner Set a text message or greeting that displays on the home screen.
Setting a Screensaver Image Selects a screensaver style. The screensaver image displays when the flip is open and no activity is detected for a specified period of time. Find the Feature M > Settings > Personalize > Screensaver Adjusting the Backlight Find the Feature M > Settings > Initial Setup > Backlight Setting Up Your Phone Set the amount of time that the display and keypad backlights remain on.
Calling Features For basic instructions on how to make and answer calls, see page 11. Redialing a Number Press 1 N 2 S 3 N To view the dialed calls list scroll to the entry you want to call redial the number Using Automatic Redial Calling Features When you receive a busy signal, your phone displays Call Failed, Number Busy. To redial the phone number, press N or RETRY (+). Your phone automatically redials the number.
The phone displays the caller’s name when the name is stored in your phonebook, or Incoming Call when caller ID information is not available. You can also set your phone to play a distinctive ringer ID for specific entries stored in your phonebook. For more information, see page 69. Turning Off a Call Alert You can turn off your phone’s incoming call alert before answering the call by pressing either volume key.
Viewing Recent Calls Your phone keeps lists of the calls you recently received and dialed, even if the calls did not connect. The lists are sorted from newest to oldest entries. The oldest entries are deleted as new entries are added. Shortcut: Press N from the home screen to view the dialed calls list. Find the Feature Press 1 S 2 SELECT (+) 3 S M > Recent Calls To scroll to Received Calls or Dialed Calls select the list scroll to an entry Calling Features Note: < means the call connected.
The Last Calls Menu can include the following options: Option Alert Store Delete Delete All Hide ID/Show ID Send Message Add Digits Attach Number Description Initiate an Alert mode Push to Talk call to the entry (see page 35). Create a phonebook entry with the number in the No. field. Delete the entry. Delete all entries in the list. Hide or show your caller ID for the next call. Open a new text message with the number in the To field. Add digits after the number.
Using the Notepad The most recent set of digits entered on the keypad are stored in your phone’s notepad memory. This can be a phone number that you called, or a number that you entered but did not call.
Calling With Speed Dial Each entry you store in your phonebook is assigned a unique speed dial number. Tip: To see an entry’s speed dial number, press M > Phonebook, scroll to the entry, press VIEW (+). To speed dial a phonebook entry: Press 1 keypad keys 2 # 3 N To enter the speed dial number for the entry you want to call submit the number call the entry Calling With 1-Touch Dial Using Voicemail Voicemail messages that you receive are stored on the network.
Listening to Voicemail Messages Find the Feature M > Messages > VoiceMail The phone calls your voicemail phone number. If no voicemail number is stored, your phone prompts you to store a number. Receiving a Voicemail Message When you receive a voicemail message, your phone displays the & (voicemail message) indicator and a New VoiceMail notification. Calling Features Press CALL (+) The phone calls your voicemail phone number. If no voicemail number is stored, your phone prompts you to store a number.
Note: You cannot store a p (pause), w (wait), or n (number) character in this number. If you want to store a voicemail number with these characters, create a phonebook entry for it. Then, you can use the entry to call your voicemail. Using Call Waiting When you are on a call, an alert tone sounds to indicate that you have received a second call.
Get It Now 7 A With Get It Now, you can download and store new ring tones. A Get It Now Note: Normal airtime and/or carrier usage charges apply. To view pricing options for the application 7 9 YES (-) Your phone downloads and installs the application. The phone then asks if you wish to run the application. launch the application 6 S A Get It Now 7 SELECT (+) 8 YES (-) Pricing options vary by application. You may be presented with options to purchase the application, subscribe for a monthly fee, or pay an unlimited usage charge.
Launching an Application Find the Feature 7 A Get It Now M > Get It Now > application A Notes: • If you receive an incoming call while using an application, your phone pauses the application, notifies you of the call, and prompts you to answer. When the call ends, the phone gives you the option to return to the application. • If you receive an incoming call while downloading an application, your phone forwards the call to your voicemail. If you do not have voicemail, the caller receives a busy signal.
7 Find the Feature M > Get It Now A A When you remove an application, your phone completely removes the application from the phone. To reinstall the application, you must download it and pay for it again as described on page 60.
