8 Sonar and other WDM software
OVERVIEW
The MOTU PCI WDM Audio Driver provides
standard multi-channel input and output for any
Windows audio program that support multi-
channel WDM and Wave drivers.

INSTALLING THE MOTU PCI WDM AUDIO
DRIVER
The PCI-424 system installer CD installs the
MOTU PCI WDM Audio Driver into Windows for
you. Thats pretty much all the preparation you
need. See chapter 3, “Installing the PCI-424
Windows Software (page 25).
CHOOSING INPUTS AND OUTPUTS
Use the MOTU PCI Audio Console application to
configure the audio interface inputs and outputs
for your MOTU audio interface. For example, if
you have a 2408mk3 interface, you need to
configure the three 2408mk3 format banks as
desired. You also use the MOTU PCI Audio
Console to make other important 2408mk3
settings, such the 2408mk3’s clock source, and
others.
Figure 8-1: Configure the three banks as you would like to use them in
your WDM- or Wave-compatible audio software. Only activate the
banks you really need, though, to conserve CPU and PCI bandwidth.
REDUCING DELAY WHEN MONITORING
LIVE INPUTS
If you patch a live input (such as MIDI synthesizer)
through a real-time plug-in effect in your audio
software, you might hear a slight delay. There are
several ways to reduce this delay. For details, see
chapter 10, “Reducing Monitoring Latency”
(page 91).
USING SONAR WITH THE PCI-424 SYSTEM
After installing the WDM driver as discussed in
chapter 3, “Installing the PCI-424 Windows
Software (page 25), and then running the MOTU
PCI Audio Console to configure your 2408mk3
banks as just described above, the 2408mk3’s
inputs will appear in Sonar. Choose Audio from the
Options menu, and then click the Drivers tab.
