LLDP Overview
LLDP is an OSI Layer 2 protocol defined by IEEE 802.11AB. LLDP standardizes the self-identification
advertisement method, and allows each networking device, such as a Moxa managed switch, to periodically
send its system and configuration information to its neighbors. Because of this, all LLDP devices are kept
informed of each other’s status and configurations. With SNMP, this information can be transferred to
Moxa’s MXview for auto-topology and network visualization.
From the switch’s web interface, you can enable or disable LLDP, and set the LLDP transmit interval. In
addition, you can view each switch’s neighbor-list, which is reported by its network neighbors. Most
importantly, enabling the LLDP function allows Moxa’s MXview to automatically display the network’s
topology and system setup details, such as VLAN and Trunking for the entire network.
