INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
CHROME-PLATED VALVE COVERS
SB CHEVY 1987-LATER INNER RAIL DESIGN

NOTE: Mr. Gasket Valve Covers are a direct replacement for the factory inner rail design valve
covers used on 1987-later SB Chevy engines. These covers are beautifully chrome-
plated for a lasting finish, and include replacement grommets and a chrome oil fill cap.
On some vehicle applications, it may be necessary to remove or disconnect various
auxiliary engine components to provide clearance for the installation of these valve
covers. If needed, refer to the manufacturer’s service manual for the correct procedure.
Tag all items removed for identification.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE ENGINE, RADIATOR, AND ALL AUXILIARY COMPONENTS
ARE COOL BEFORE STARTING INSTALLATION.
1. Remove PCV valve(s), air cleaner breather tube (if equipped), and hold-down bolts from
center of valve covers. Hold-down bolts are equipped with torx-type heads. For removal,
use a no. 30 torx drive tip tool.
NOTE: It is recommended that you replace the existing valve cover gaskets to ensure a
positive seal. Remove all gasket material from cylinder heads and use Mr. Gasket
#168 or #5867 UltraSeal™ Valve Cover Gaskets for optimum sealing.
2. Install replacement grommets into valve covers, and place into cylinder heads. Two (2)
hole design fits driver’s side, and one (1) hole design fits passenger side cylinder head.
3. Insert hold-down bolts into mounting holes, starting with the two (2) center bolts. Tighten
to manufacturer’s specifications.
NOTE: Use optional Mr. Gasket chrome-plated Hold-Down Kit #9822 to replace the existing
factory mounting hardware. This kit consists of four (4) hold-down bolts, complete
with four (4) flat washers for each valve cover.
4. Re-install PCV valve(s), air cleaner breather tube (if equipped), and oil fill cap into
valve covers.
5. Replace and reconnect any auxiliary engine components previously removed.
