6-5 Node Installation/Removal
As with any server system, power must be removed from the serverboard
when upgrading or installing memory or processors. In the 2U Twin
2
server, the
serverboards (nodes) are capable of being hot-swapped from the chassis, allowing
one to be powered down for servicing while the others continue operating.
Warning: Important! Removing a node from the server affects the air ow throughout the
system. For this reason, nodes should be removed, serviced and replaced as quickly
as possible. Also note that powering down a node will power down all the hard drives
that are logically associated with it.
Removing a Node
1. Depress the power button on the control panel to power down the node.
2. There are two latches located below the handles at the rear of the node tray.
Push both of these inward.
3. While pushing the latches inward, grasp both handles and pull the node from
the chassis.
4. Perform any service needed to the node in a timely manner.
5. Reinstall the node by pushing it into its bay until rmly seated.
Note: see Figure 6-1 for the locations of the control panels that are associated
with each node.
