ElectricStarter RecoilStarter Determinethatyourhome'swiring isathree-wiregroundedsystem.Askakensed electddanif youarenot certain. 1. Pushthe chokeleverto the CHOKEIJIposition. 2. Ifthe engineiswarm,placethe chokeinthe RUN1_ I positioninsteadof CHOKEIJ1. 3. Pushthe primerthree(3)times,makingsureto coverthevent holewhen pushing. 4. Ifthe engineiswarm,pushthe primerbuttononlyonce. 5. Graspthe recoilstarterhandleandslowlypullthe ropeout.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Followthe maintenance schedule givenbelow.Thischartdescribes serviceguidelines only.Usethe ServiceLogcolumntokeeptrackofcompletedmaintenance tasks.To schedule service from SearsParts & Repair, call 1-800-659-5917. Beforeperforming any type of maintenance/service,disengageall controls andstop the engine.Wait untilall moving parts havecometo acomplete stop.Disconnectsparkplugwire andground it againstthe engine to preventunintendedstarting.
2. Removethe threescrewsthatsecurethe lowerpanel.Removethe lower panelbylifting up onthe panelto freethe tabsat the bottomof the panel fromthe tab slotsandthenpull back.SeeFigure13. Spar_ Plug DONOTcheckfor a sparkwith the sparkplug removed.DONOTcrankthe enginewith the sparkplug removed. If the engine hasbeenrunning,the muffler will beveryhot.Becareful not to touch the muffler. Thesparkplugshouldbe checkedevery25 hoursandchangedonceaseasonor every100hours.
Removing debriswillinsure adequate cooling, correct enginespeed andreduce the riskoffire. Measurethe pluggapwith afeelergauge.Correctasnecessary bybending the sideelectrode,seeFigure16.Thegapshouldbesetto .02-.03inches (0.60-0.80mm). 5. Accumulationof debris aroundthe muffler couldcauseafire. Inspectand cleanbefore everyuse.
If thestarterisdifficult to pull,removethe sparkplugandpullthe handle severaltimesto ensurethat anyoil trappedinthe engineheadis removed. 5.
