GAS AND OIL FILL-UP Alcoholblendedfuels (calledgasoholor usingethanolor methanol) can attractmoisturewhich leadsto separationand formationof acids duringstorage.Acidic gascan damagethe fuel systemof an engine whilein storage. Oil (one bottle shipped with unit) FirstTime Use 1. 2. Removeoil fill plug. Withthe chippershredderon levelground,usea funnelto empty entirecontentsof oil bottle providedintothe engine. 3. Replaceoil fill plug and tighten.
NOTE:A noisewill be heardwhenfindingthe startof the compression cycle.This noiseis causedby the flails and fingers,which are partof the shreddingmechanism,and it shouldbe expecteduntilthe impeller reachesfull speed. 7. Pull the ropewith a rapid,continuous,full armstroke.Keepa firm grip on the starterhandle.Letthe rope rewindslowly. 8. Repeat,if necessary,untilenginestarts.Whenenginestarts, movechokecontrolgraduallytowardthe RUNI Jt I position.. 9.
MAINTENANCE Followthe maintenanceschedulegivenbelow.This chart describes serviceguidelinesonly. Usethe ServiceLog columnto keeptrackof completedmaintenancetasks.To locatethe nearest Sears Service Centeror to scheduleservice,simplycontactSears at 1-800-4-MY-HOME®. Beforeperforminganytypeof maintenance/service, disengageall controlsand stoptheengine.Waituntilall movingpartshavecometo a completestop.Disconnectsparkplugwireandgrounditagainstthe enginetopreventunintendedstarting.
Servicing To Drain Oil the Air Cleaner Do notuse pressurizedair or solventsto cleanthe air cleaner cartridge. 1. Runthe engineto warmthe oil. 2. With engineOFF but still warm,disconnectthe sparkplug wire and keepitawayfrom sparkplug. Removeoil draincap locatedat the baseof the engine,and drain oil intoan appropriatereceptacle.See Figure13. 3. Theair cleanerpreventsdamagingdirt, dust,etc.,from enteringthe carburetorand beingforced intothe engineand is importantto engine life and performance.
Service IVluffler REMOVING Temperatureof mufflerand nearbyareas mayexceed 150° F (65°C). Avoidthese areas. • Inspectmufflerevery 50 hours,and replaceif necessary. Replacementparts for themufflermustbe the sameand installed in the samepositionas theoriginal parts. Clean If the dischargearea becomesclogged,removethe flail screenand cleanarea as follows: Stopthe engine.Makecertainthe chippershredderhascome to a completestop. Dailyor beforeevery use, cleangrass,chaffor accumulated debrisfromengine.
5. Rotate impeller assembly byhand untilyoulocate oneoftwo chipper blades inthechipper chute opening. 6. Remove theblade byremoving theinternal hexscrews, lock washers, andhexnutswhich secure ittotheimpeller. Retain the hardware. SeeFigure 15. 5. Carefullyseparatethe hopperassemblyfrom the impellerassemblyand removethe shredderplate.The shredderplatecan be identifiedby referringto item29 in theparts list on page 20 & 21.
Neverstorechippershredderwith fuel in tank indoorsor in poorly ventilatedareaswherefuel fumesmay reachan openflame,spark, or pilot lightas on a furnace,water heater,clothesdryer,or gas appliance.
