7.15.5 Engine coolant – Filling
Preconditions
☑ Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
☑ MTU Fluids and Lubricants Specifications (A001061/..) are available.

Engine coolant
WARNING
Coolant is hot and under pressure.
Risk of injury and scalding!
• Let the engine cool down.
• Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles / safety mask.
CAUTION
Cold coolant in hot engine can cause thermal stress.
Formation of cracks in components!
• Fill / top up coolant only into cold engine.
Filling engine coolant
1. (→ Page 26)Turn breather valve of coolant expansion tank counterclockwise until the first stop and allow
pressure to escape.
2. Continue to turn breather valve counterclockwise and remove.
3. Pour coolant into engine until coolant level reaches lower edge of cast-in eye of filler neck.
4. Check proper condition of breather valve and clean sealing faces.
5. Place breather valve on filler neck and close.
6. Start the engine and operate it at idle speed for some minutes.
7. Check coolant level (→ Page 110).
