4.6 Operational checks
DANGER
Unguarded rotating and moving engine components.
Risk of serious injury – danger to life!
• Take special care when working on a running engine.
WARNING
Engine noise above 85 dB (A).
Risk of damage to hearing!
• Wear ear protectors.

Engine at nominal speed
Visually inspect engine for leaks and general condition;
Check for abnormal running noises and vibration;
Check exhaust color (→ Page 57).
Fuel prefilter Check if suction-side pressure indicated at the fuel prefilter pressure
gauge is within the limit (→ Page 86).
Drain water and contaminants (→ Page 87).
Air filter Check signal ring position of service indicator (→ Page 95).
HT coolant pump Check relief bore for oil and coolant discharge and contamination
(→ Page 114).
Raw water pump Check relief bore for oil and water discharge and contamination
(→ Page 117).
Intercooler Check condensate drain (if applicable) (→ Page 92).
Engine oil Check engine oil level (→ Page 97).
