6.9 Charge-Air Cooling, General, Left Side

6.9.1 Intercooler  checking condensate drains for coolant

discharge and obstructions

DANGER

Unguarded rotating and moving engine components.

Risk of serious injury  danger to life!

 Take special care when working on a running engine.

WARNING

Engine noise above 85 dB (A).

Risk of damage to hearing!

 Wear ear protectors.

WARNING

Compressed air.

Risk of injury!

 Do not direct compressed-air jet at persons.

 Wear protective goggles / safety mask and ear protectors.

Intercooler  checking condensate drains for

coolant discharge and obstructions

1. With the engine running, verify that air emerges

from the condensate drain(s) at driving end, left

and right engine side. If no air emerges:

2. Clean condensate drain(s) and blow out with

compressed air.

3. If a large amount of coolant is continuously

scharged, the intercooler is leaking. Contact

Service.

Emergency measures prior to engine start with a leaking intercooler

1. Remove injectors (

Page 6  15).

2. Bar engine manually (

Page 6  1).

3. Ba

r engine with starting system to blow out combustion chambers ( Page 6  1).

4. Install injectors ( Page 6  15).
