7.15.6 Engine coolant – Sample extraction and analysis
Preconditions
MTU Fluids and Lubricants Specifications (A001061/..) are available.

DANGER
Rotating and moving engine parts.
Risk of crushing, danger of parts of the body being caught or pulled in.
Only run the engine at low power. Keep away from the engine's danger zone.
WARNING
Coolant is hot and under pressure.
Risk of injury and scalding!
Let the engine cool down.
Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles / safety mask.
WARNING
A high level of noise is produced when the engine is running.
Risk of damage to hearing.
Wear ear defenders.
Engine coolant – Sample extrac-
tion and analysis
1. With the engine running, open drain
valve (1).
2. Flush sample-extraction point by draining
approx. 1 liter coolant.
3. Drain approx. 1 liter coolant into a clean
container.
4. Close drain valve (1).
5. Using the equipment and chemicals in the
MTU test kit, examine coolant for:
Antifreeze concentration
Corrosion inhibitor concentration
pH value.
6. For engine coolant changing intervals
(→ MTU Fluids and Lubricants Specifica-
tions (A001061/..)).
