mechanical impulse time (Tap time) can be decreased and/or the surface area of the Probe can
be changed either by using bigger diameter probe (5 to 10mm) or by the attachment of a cap.
Both of these options can be ordered separately from the manufacturer.
2.3.3 Probe jumps off skin surface
If the Probe jumps off the surface of the skin during measurement, the raw signal
17
of the
acceleration curve is as shown in Figure 3 below. The Probe jumps off if an overly strong
mechanical impulse is exerted on a tissue with high mechanical elasticity (e.g. tendon or
contracted muscle). As a result, the high mechanical energy stored in the tissue after recuperation
exceeds the pre-pressure exerted by the Device to the Probe. The oscillation curve registered as a
consequence gives unreliable measurement results.

To avoid the Probe jumping off while measuring the tendon or contracted muscle, special
two sided medical stickers
18
can be used so that the Probe sticks lightly to the measured
surface. The use of the sticker does not influence the measurement results to a statistically
significant extent (p < 0.05).

If the check-box entitled Raw signal is clicked in the Test measuring window (see chapter 4.2.5) then raw and processed
signal curves are shown on the graph; if un-checked then only the processed signal curve is shown. By clicking on the
appropriate buttons on the top left of the window, the Test Protocol can be either Printed, Saved in JPG format or
numerical values of the curves Exported in CVI format for further analysis.
