3. HOW TO PLAY
This car-race battle game is based on the theme of the comic “Wangan Midnight,” and features
a linked competition game capability. As newcomers, players compete in a car race on the
Metropolitan Expressway. In the Scenario Mode, when a player defeats rivals that appear one
after another, legendary “Evil Z” shows up for the final stage. The Scenario Mode allows entry
of another player in the middle of a game play. The purpose of this game is to defeat various
challengers and win against Evil Z.
[Outline of the game]
Scenario Mode
The game starts with a 20-second free run, and players compete against the rival
(computer-controlled car).
By driving in front of the rival, the player can reduce the “life” level of the opponent.
Conversely, if the players car is behind the rival, the player’s life level decreases. When
the opponent’s life level decreases to zero, the player wins. If the time limit is reached,
the one who is in front becomes the winner.
When the player wins a battle, the result is displayed and the player can proceed to the
free run of the next stage. When the player loses, the “Continued Play” screen appears.
By inserting additional coins while this display is shown, the player can continue the battle
with the same rival. When the entry timer for a continued play reaches zero, the monitor
shows “Game Over” and returns to the title screen.
When the player clears all eight stages, the player’s cumulative time of all stages is
displayed, then the ending scene is displayed and the game is over.
Competition Mode
When another player buys-in from the vacant seat while one person is playing in the
Scenario Mode, the game switches to Competition Mode.
In this mode, two players compete against each other. By being in front of the opponent,
the player can reduce the rival’s life level. Conversely, driving behind the opponent
reduces the players life level. When the rival’s life level becomes zero, the player wins
one point. If the limited time becomes zero, the one that is in front receives one point.
The player who obtains the specified points (two points in default setting) becomes the
winner.
The winner can continue playing the Scenario Mode game from the point at which the
second player bought-in. The game is over for the player who lost.
Time Attack Mode
In this mode, players must drive as fast as possible to pass each checkpoint within the
remaining time (displayed on the screen).
In the Time Attack Mode, the player starts driving the car from behind the start point, and
the time count starts when the player crosses the start point. When the player reaches
the finish point within the time limit, the monitor displays the time, then the game is over.
If the time runs out before reaching the finish point, the “Continued Play” screen appears.
By inserting additional coins, the player can continue the game with the same car and on
the same course from the start point. When the continued play entry timer reaches zero,
the monitor shows “Game Over.”
