5.2 Playing Tools
On top of the various pad settings described in the previous section (see 5.1, Adjusting Your
Pads), MASCHINE also offers you a series of intuitive playing tools particularly useful when
playing live:
Note Repeat allows you to automatically repeat a Sound by holding its pad: 5.2.1, Note
Repeat.
Mute and Solo allow you to selectively mute and solo Sounds and Groups: 5.2.2, Mute
and Solo.
Choke All Notes allow you to cut all playing audio: 5.2.3, Choke All Notes.
Groove allows you to give a shuffling flair to individual Sounds/Groups or to your entire
Project: 5.2.4, Groove.
Hardware Shortcuts give you a quick access to the most important parameters of each
channel (Sound, Group, and Master): 5.2.5, Level, Tempo, Tune, and Groove Shortcuts
on Your Controller.
5.2.1 Note Repeat
Note Repeat is a really handy way to play and program beats: it plays the selected Sound or
note repeatedly at a given rate. You just need to hold a pad and its Sound/note will be steadily
repeated until you release the pad.
When using Note Repeat all pads will be both velocity and pressure sensitive, allowing for
expressive drum rolls or dynamic basslines.
Note Repeat is a really funky way to play percussion and drums live creating build-ups
and breaks.
Note Repeat can also come in handy to quickly record a regular beat when creating Pat-
terns.
Note Repeat is also interesting to use with tonal Sounds and you can access it from Key-
board mode to create synthesizer-like arpeggios.
