About GPS and signal reception
TheGlobalPositioningSystem(GPS)isavailableatanytime,freeofcharge,andisaccurate
towithin5m(15ft).GPSnavigationismadepossiblebyanetworkofsatellitesthatorbitthe
Earthataround20,200km(12,552mi).Eachsatellitetransmitsarangeofsignalswhichare
utilizedbyGPSreceivers,suchasyourNavman,todetermineanexactlocation.Although
aGPSreceivercandetectsignalsfromupto12satellitesatanytime,onlyfoursignalsare
requiredtoprovideapositionor"GPSx"(latitudeandlongitude),forvehiclenavigation
systems.
YourNavmanreceivesGPSsignalsviatheinternalGPSantenna.Toguaranteetheoptimum
GPSsignalstrength,ensureyourNavmanisoutdoors,orinavehicleoutdoors,andhasan
unobstructedviewofthesky.GPSreceptionisnotusuallyaffectedbyweather,however,
veryheavyrainorsnowmayhaveanegativeeffectonyourreception.
Caring for your Navman
TakinggoodcareofyourNavmanwillensuretrouble-freeoperationandreducetheriskof
damagetoyourNavman:
• KeepyourNavmanawayfromexcessivemoistureandextremetemperatures.
• AvoidexposingyourNavmantodirectsunlightorstrongultravioletlightforextended
periodsoftime.
• DonotplaceanythingontopofyourNavmanordropobjectsonyourNavman.
• DonotdropyourNavmanorsubjectittosevereshock.
• DonotsubjectyourNavmantosuddenandseveretemperaturechanges.Thiscould
causemoisturecondensationinsidetheunit,whichcoulddamageyourNavman.Inthe
eventofmoisturecondensation,allowyourNavmantodryoutcompletelybeforeuse.
• Thescreensurfacecaneasilybescratched.Avoidtouchingitwithsharpobjects.Non-
adhesivegenericscreenprotectorsdesignedspecicallyforuseonportabledevices
withLCDpanelsmaybeusedtohelpprotectthescreenfromminorscratches.
• NevercleanyourNavmanwhenitisturnedon.Useasoft,lint-freeclothtowipethe
screenandtheexteriorofyourNavman.
