EM card
Replacing an EM card. EM card can be exchanged even when the power of the blade enclosure they
are in is turned on.
1. Check the EM card to be replaced.
IMPORTANT:
In configurations with only one EM card, check whether the configuration information has been
backed up. If not, back up the configuration information. If the configuration is not backed up,
the initial setting of the blade enclosure may be lost.
The following items are not backed up.
Configure these items again after restoring backed-up configuration information, if necessary.
CLI Settings
User passwords
Time zone
Web Console Settings
IP address of NTP servers for DHCP
Wait time for Power Units at boot
Upper limit of input power to the whole rack system
Wait time for enclosure response to collaborating blades
Blade priority
When exchanging an EM card with the blade enclosure power on, do so as quickly as possible.
Because leaving an EM card slot blank may reduce cooling efficiency, insert an EM card or an
EM card slot cover into any blank slot. If there are no EM card in the enclosure, system failure
detection does not function. Install one or more EM card as soon as possible.
Do not install or remove any module or turn the power on or off while rebooting an EM card.
Such operation may stop the update or cause the equipment to malfunction. In addition, do not
switch the ID LED on the installed modules on or off. Such operation may cause the ID LED to
turn on or off inappropriately.
If two EM card are installed, the “Administrator” password of the active EM card automatically
becomes the “Administrator” password for both of these EM card.
(The same password is assigned to both the active and standby EM card. Therefore, the standby
EM card may have a password that is different from the initial “Admin” value, even if it has not
been changed on the card.)
If one of the two EM card is exchanged, the password of the active EM card configured before
the exchange will be automatically assigned to a new EM card.
2. Remove all of cables on the EM card that is to be removed.
3. Remove the EM card (see “Installation/Removal of EM card”).
4. Insert a new EM card into the blank EM card slot (see “Installing/Removing EM card”).
The new EM card automatically turns on.
