Turn the Digital Entertainer HD off and on. Back. Go back to the previous screen. Navigation. Use these buttons to navigate the menu selections. When playing a video, you can use the left and right buttons to seek by single percentage points. Play/Pause. Press Play to play each file in sequence in a list of songs or videos. Stop.

Chapter 2 Installation Install your Digital Entertainer HD in this order: 1. Connect the Digital Entertainer HD. 2. Set up the Digital Entertainer HD. 3. Install software on your computer with the NETGEAR Resource CD. 4. Configure your media library to work with the Digital Entertainer HD. 5. For Custom Setup or wireless networks, enter the settings. Connecting the Digital Entertainer HD The figure below shows the rear view of the Digital Entertainer HD.

The Digital Entertainer HD can use an Ethernet local area network (LAN) connection, or it can connect wirelessly to an 802.11g or 802.11b wireless network. • Ethernet LAN: Connect the Digital Entertainer HD to the router with an Ethernet cable. • Wireless: You will need to know the network name, also called the SSID, and the wireless security settings for your network. 3. Connect the Digital Entertainer HD power cord and plug it into an outlet.

You can use TV Mode to try out different TV resolution settings. 2. Depending on where you bought your Digital Entertainer HD, you may be prompted to enter your zip code. If you want to receive news and weather, or to schedule TV recordings with the electronic program guide, enter your zip code.
Digital Entertainer HD Model EVA8000 User Manual Installing the Digital Entertainer for Windows Software After connecting the Digital Entertainer HD and completing setup, follow these steps to install the software. 1. Power on your computer and log in as needed. 2. Insert the NETGEAR Resource CD into the CD drive on the computer. The Welcome page opens. If you do not see the Welcome page, browse the files on your CD, and then click Setup. 3.

Follow these steps: 1. Click Next to begin. The Configuration Wizard prompts you to select media folders to be shared. This will allow the Digital Entertainer HD to access these files. 2. Browse and select the folders that you want, and then click Next. 3.

If you have a wireless 802.11g or 802.11b network, then select the wireless network and enter the settings. Custom Setup If you selected Custom Setup, return to your TV to enter them. 1. Press OK on the remote control. You can choose to scan for shared content (shared media). If you do not want to scan automatically, select No to go to the Setup Network Shares menu.

To connect to it you must enter any passphrase or security keys required for access. • Hidden Network: A hidden network does not broadcast its SSID, so the SSID is blank on this display. To connect to this wireless network you must enter the SSID, and then enter any passphrase or security keys required for access. 3.

Chapter 3 Playing Media Your Digital Entertainer HD can play a variety of digital files, and can combine the playback of digital and analog sources at the same time. Media File Formats See the NETGEAR website for the latest list of supported formats. As of this printing the Digital Entertainer HD supports at least: Table 3-1.

Watch the TV tunor, or recorded videos. • Photos. View photos. • Schedule recordings. Schedule TV recordings with the electronic program guide. • Access PC. Connect to the computer where you installed the Digital Entertainer Windows software. • News/Weather. View news and weather. • More. View or work with System Functions.

It does not matter if you set up the iPod on a PC or a Mac. Follow these steps: 1. Use the USB cable that came with your iPod to connect it to the USB port on the front of the Digital Entertainer HD. For example, if you are watching a DVD, and then you play music, pressing Pause pauses the music. Pressing the number buttons or Channel Up changes the channel. Recording Video Content Note: To record a media source onto a computer hard disk you must first set up the network recording destination using the Recording Setup menu.
Digital Entertainer HD Model EVA8000 User Manual Continuous Loop Recording Continuous loop recording creates a loop file (you set how large it is) to record video for an hour or two. As new video comes into the loop, it replaces the oldest video content in the loop. Loop files are only created for live-TV sources, which are cable (either with the built-in tuner in the Digital Entertainer HD or through an external cable tuner) or satellite. To start recording to a loop file, follow these steps: 1.

Follow these steps: 1. Push Home, and select Schedule recordings. • Browse shows. Browse through shows on the electronic program guide. See “Browse and Record” on page 3-10. • Browse channels. Browse channels on the electronic program guide. • Manually add entry. • Manage Recording Rules.

Change the settings for your wish list. • Perform wish list search. Search for shows that match the criteria on your wish list. • Browse shows found. Chapter 4 Supervisor Functions Use the Supervisor Functions to manage the Digital Entertainer HD. Supervisor Function Menu To go to the Supervisor Function menu, push Home, and select More>Supervisor Functions. The Supervisor Function menu offers these options: • Setup Wizard. Enter or change the settings for the Digital Entertainer HD. • Advanced Setup. See “Advanced Setup” on page 4-1. • Full scan for media files. Replace current media files and add new media files found.

Specify where the electronic program guide data will be saved. Local Settings Push Home, and select More>Supervisor Functions>Advanced Setup>Local Settings. The Local Settings menu offers these options: • Change room name. • Set clock. • Display settings. • Enter your ZIP code. • Photo settings.
