Getting Started Powerline adapters give you an alternative way to extend your network using your existing electrical wiring. Plug two or more Powerline adapters into electrical outlets to create a wired network connection. You can add up to 16 Homeplug AV-certified and AV2-certified adapters to extend your network. For a complete list of Homeplug AV-certified devices, visit http://www.homeplug.org/certified_products.
Meet Your Adapter Before you install your adapter, familiarize yourself with its LEDs, buttons, and port.
Power LED Solid green. The electrical power is on. Blinking amber. The adapter is in power saving mode. Blinking green. The adapter is in the process of setting up security. Off. The adapter is not receiving electrical power. Ethernet LED Solid. The Ethernet port is linked. Off. No Ethernet connection is detected. Pick A Plug LED The Pick A Plug feature lets you pick the electrical outlet with the strongest link performance, indicated by the color displayed by the LED: Red. Link rate < 50 Mbps (good).
Ethernet port Connect your wired devices, including computers, Wifi routers or game consoles, to your Powerline network. Security button Use the Security button to create a secure Powerline network.

Secure Your Network ¾¾ To create a secure network: 1. Plug in your adapters. 2. Wait until the Pick A Plug LEDs are blinking. 3. Press the Security button on one of the adapters for two seconds, then press the Security button on one of the other adapters in your existing network for two seconds. Both buttons must be pressed within two minutes. 4. If you are installing additional adapters, repeat step 3 with one of the secure adapters and one of the adapters that is not yet secured.
Add Adapters To add adapters before you configure the security feature, just plug them in and connect the adapters to your equipment. ¾¾ To add an adapter to a Powerline network with security set: 1. Plug in and connect the new adapters. 2. On any of the previously installed adapters, press and hold the Security button for two seconds. 3. On the new adapter, press and hold the Security button for two seconds. Both buttons must be pressed within two minutes.
Troubleshooting Tips Power LED is off. Make sure that power is supplied to the electrical outlet, and that the Powerline devices are not plugged into an extension cord, power strip, or surge protector. Power LED is blinking amber. Power saving mode occurs when the Ethernet LED is off. This can occur in the following circumstances: Pick A Plug LED is off. Pick A Plug LED is amber or red. • The Ethernet cable is unplugged. • The device connected through the Ethernet cable is turned off.
Ethernet LED is off. • Make sure that the Ethernet cables are working and securely plugged into the devices. • Press the Factory Reset button on each device for one second to return the Powerline adapter to its factory default settings.

1. 1 Getting Started NETGEAR provides free Android and iOS mobile genie® apps that let you manage your router. If you already downloaded the genie app, update the app on your mobile device.
NETGEAR genie App Router Requirements To view a list of routers that can be managed using the genie app, visit netgear.com/landing/en-us/netgear-genie-routers.aspx. Download the genie Mobile App The genie mobile app runs on Android and iOS mobile devices, such as Android smartphones, iPhones, iPads, and tablets. For information about which mobile devices are currently supported, visit the NETGEAR genie web page.

NETGEAR genie App Set Up Parental Controls Parental controls allow you to control the Internet content on your home network. After installation, Parental Controls automatically starts. If your router supports Parental Controls, you can set it up using the genie app. You must have an OpenDNS account to set up Parental Controls. If you do not have an account, you can sign up for a free account using the genie app. To set up parental controls using the genie mobile app: 1.

NETGEAR genie App Access Files on a USB Storage Device Connected to the Router You can access files stored on a USB storage device that is connected to your router’s USB port or eSATA port. Not all router models include these ports. To access files on a USB storage device connected to the router: 1. Connect your mobile device to the router’s WiFi network. 2. Launch the genie mobile app . 3. Tap the SIGN IN button. Note: If you don't have a NETGEAR account, create an account or tap SKIP.

NETGEAR genie App Send Files With Turbo Transfer If at least two mobile devices are connected to your router’s network, you can send files from one mobile device to another using the genie mobile app. The genie app must be installed on both devices for you to send files with Turbo Transfer. To send files with Turbo Transfer: 1. Connect your mobile device to the router’s WiFi network. 2. Launch the genie mobile app . 3. Tap the SIGN IN button.

6. Use MyMedia to Play and Share Media Files 6 You can use the MyMedia® feature on the genie app to play media stored on computerr and WiFi devices that are connected to your NETGEAR router’s network.
NETGEAR genie App Play Media Files From Your Home Network Use the genie app to play media files stored on devices that are connected to your router’s home network. For you to play media from your home network on a device, the device must support the DLNA. Game consoles (like Xbox 360 or PS3) and DVRs do not support the DLNA. For this reason, they do not display as players in MyMedia. MyMedia finds only the media types supported by the player.
NETGEAR genie App Share Media With Chromecast Using the Mobile genie App Chromecast is a media streaming device that plugs into the HDMI port on your TV. If you use Chromecast, the genie mobile app lets you use Chromecast to play media from devices on your network on your TV. To share media on the network with Chromecast using the mobile genie app for iOS devices: 1. Connect your mobile device to the router’s WiFi network. 2. Launch the genie mobile app . 3. Tap the SIGN IN button.

If you do not want devices on the network to access your files, you can disable this feature. To prevent devices on the network from accessing your files: 1.
