Cha pt er 4 hardw ar e conne ction
Begin by finding a good place t o set up your wireless broadband. Som e things
to consider:

Keep the access point as central in your work area as possible. Signal
st rengt h and speed fall off with distance.
Higher is often bet ter. For instance, set it up on t he top shelf of a bookcase
rather than the bot tom one, if possible.
Prior t o connect ing the hardware, m ake sure t o power off your Ethernet device
and Wireless Access Point (AP). Then follow the st eps below t o connect t he
related devices.
St ep 1 : Conn ect your com put er t o t he LAN port .
At tach one end of the Ethernet cable with RJ-45 connect or t o your hub, switch
or a com put ers Ethernet port , and t he ot her end to one of t he LAN ports of your
AP.
St ep 2 : Conn ect the pow er adapt e r.
Connect the single DC out put connect or of the power adapter t o t he power j ack
on t he side of the AP. Then plug the Power Adapt er int o an AC out let.
St ep 3 : Pow er on t he follow ing de vices in t his order:
HUB or Swit ch, AP, and PCs
