The Basics of Shooting and Playback
Using the Zoom
When you move the zoom control, the zoom
lens position changes.
• To zoom in closer to the subject: Move
toward g (telephoto)
• To zoom out and view a larger area: Move
toward f (wide-angle)
• Rotating the zoom control all the way in
either direction adjusts the zoom quickly.
• The zoom can also be operated by moving
the side zoom control (A2) toward g or
f.
The function of the side zoom control can
be set in the Assign side zoom control in
the setup menu (A95).
• A zoom indicator is displayed at the top of
the monitor when the zoom control is
moved.
• Digital zoom, which allows you to further
magnify the subject up to approximately 4×
the maximum optical zoom ratio, can be
activated by moving and holding the zoom
control toward g when the camera is
zoomed in to the maximum optical zoom
position.
C Notes About Digital Zoom
The zoom indicator turns blue when the digital zoom is activated, and it turns yellow
when the zoom magnification is increased further.
• Zoom indicator is blue: Image quality is not noticeably reduced by using the
Dynamic Fine Zoom.
• Zoom indicator is yellow: Image quality is noticeably reduced.
• The indicator remains blue across a wider area when the image size is smaller.
• The zoom indicator may not turn blue depending on the continuous shooting
setting, etc.
