Table 3 Regulatory Symbols
Symbol Meaning Description
Protective earth
(ground)
This symbol indicates that you must connect to earth ground before
you make any other connections to the equipment.
Protective bond This symbol indicates that you must provide a protective bond
connection on the equipment; that is, any accessible metal parts
that could become energized must be properly bonded to the
earthed chassis.
Hot surface This symbol indicates that the equipment surface is hot to the touch
when it is powered on or during maintenance when a subassembly
is removed.
Direct current This symbol indicates that the equipment is suitable for direct
current only.
Alternating
current
This symbol indicates that the equipment is suitable for alternating
current only.
Caution This symbol indicates that caution should be taken when handling
the equipment.
Read operator’s
manual
This symbol indicates that the operator’s manual or card instructions
should be read before continuing with an operation.
