Get started 13 Camera lens 14 Loudspeaker Insert a SIM card and battery Note: Switch the device off and disconnect the charger and any other device before removing any covers. Avoid touching electronic components while changing any covers. Always store and use the device with any covers attached. Important: Do not use a mini-UICC SIM card, also known as a micro-SIM card, a micro-SIM card with an adapter, or a SIM card that has a mini-UICC cutout (see figure) in this device.
Get started 4 7 Line up the contacts of the battery and the battery compartment, and insert the battery (5). To replace the back cover, direct the bottom locking catches toward their slots (6), and press down until the cover locks into place (7). Insert a memory card Use only compatible memory cards approved by Nokia for use with this device. Incompatible cards may damage the card and the device and corrupt data stored on the card. Your phone supports memory cards with a capacity of up to 32 GB.
1 2 3 Get started Remove the back cover. Make sure the contact area of the memory card is facing down, and insert the card. Push the card in, until it locks into place. Replace the back cover. Remove the memory card Important: Do not remove the memory card when an application is using it. Doing so may damage the memory card and the device and corrupt data stored on the card. You can remove or replace the memory card without switching the phone off. 1 2 3 Remove the back cover.
Get started 2 3 9 Connect the charger to the phone. When the phone indicates a full charge, disconnect the charger from the phone, then from the wall outlet. You do not need to charge the battery for a specific length of time, and you can use the phone while it is charging. During charging, the phone may feel warm. If the battery is completely discharged, it may take several minutes before the charging indicator is displayed or before any calls can be made.
Basic use GSM antenna The antenna area is highlighted. Avoid touching the antenna area while the antenna is in use. Contact with antennas affects the communication quality and may reduce battery life due to higher power level during operation. Attach a strap Straps may be available separately. Basic use Access codes The security code helps to protect your device against unauthorised use. You can create and change the code, and set the device to request the code.
Basic use 11 The PIN code supplied with the SIM card protects the card against unauthorised use. The PIN2 code supplied with some SIM cards is required to access certain services. If you enter the PIN or PIN2 code incorrectly three times in succession, you are asked for the PUK or PUK2 code. If you do not have them, contact your service provider. The module PIN is required to access the information in the security module of your SIM card. The signing PIN may be required for the digital signature.
Basic use Copy contacts or pictures from your old phone Want to copy your content from your previous compatible Nokia phone and start using your new phone quickly? You can copy, for example, contacts, calendar entries, and pictures to your new phone, free of charge. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Activate Bluetooth in both phones. Select Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth. Select Menu > Settings > Sync & backup. Select Phone switch > Copy to this. Select the content to copy and Done.
Calls 13 indicates that the flight profile is active. Warning: When the flight profile is activated, you cannot make or receive any calls, including emergency calls, or use other features that require network coverage. To make a call, activate another profile. Calls Make a call 1 Enter the phone number, including the country and area code if necessary. 2 Press the call key. Answer an incoming call Press the call key, or open the slide. End a call Press the end key, or close the slide.
Contacts Contacts Save a name and phone number Select Menu > Contacts. Select Add new, and enter the number and name. If prompted, select where to save the contact. Add or edit the details of a contact 1 Select Names and a contact. 2 Select Options > Add detail. Tip: To add a ringtone or picture for a contact, select the contact and Options > Add detail > Multimedia.
Write text 15 Activate or deactivate predictive text input mode Select Options > Prediction > Prediction on or Prediction off. Not all languages are supported by predictive text input. Switch between character cases Press #. Activate number mode Press and hold #, and select Number mode. To return to letter mode, press and hold #. Tip: To quickly enter an individual number, press and hold the number key. Set the writing language Select Options > Writing language.
1 2 3 Messaging Press each number key (2–9) once for each character. Press * repeatedly, and select the desired word from the list. To confirm the word, move the cursor forward. Add a missing word to the dictionary If ? is displayed when you enter a word using predictive text input, the word is not in the dictionary. You can add it to the built-in dictionary. 1 2 3 Select Spell. Write the word using traditional text input. Select Save. Write a compound word 1 Write the first part of the word.
Personalise your phone 17 Characters with accents, other marks, or some language options, take more space, limiting the number of characters that can be sent in a single message. If the item you insert in a multimedia message is too large for the network, the device may automatically reduce the size. Only compatible devices can receive and display multimedia messages. Messages may look different in different devices.
• Personalise your phone Add shortcuts for different features, such as writing a message Personalise the home screen Want to see your favourite landscape or pictures of your family in the background of the home screen? You can change this wallpaper, and rearrange items on the home screen, to personalise it to your liking. Change the wallpaper 1 Select Menu > Settings and Display > Wallpaper. 2 Select a folder and a picture. You can also take a picture with your phone camera, and use that picture.
Connectivity 19 Connectivity Bluetooth About Bluetooth connectivity Select Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth. Use Bluetooth to connect wirelessly to compatible devices, such as other mobile devices, computers, headsets, and car kits. You can also send items from your device, copy files from your compatible PC, and print using a compatible printer. Bluetooth uses radio waves to connect, and devices must be within 10 metres (33 feet) of each other.
Clock USB data cable Copy content between your phone and a computer You can use a USB data cable to copy your pictures and other content between your phone and a compatible computer. 1 2 3 Use a USB data cable to connect your phone to a computer. Select from the following modes: Nokia Suite — Nokia Suite is installed on your computer. Media transfer — Nokia Suite is not installed on your computer. If you want to connect your phone to a home entertainment system or printer, use this mode.
Music and audio 4 5 6 7 21 To repeat an alarm on selected days of the week, go to Repeat, and scroll left or right. To select the alarm tone, go to Alarm tone, and scroll left or right. If you select the radio as the alarm tone, connect a headset to the phone. To set the length of the snooze time-out period, go to Snooze time-out, and enter the desired time. Select Save. Stop the alarm Select Stop.
Music and audio Set the music player to play in the background Select Options > Play in background. Close the music player when it is playing in the background Press and hold the end key. Play a video Play videos stored in the phone memory or on the memory card. Select Menu > Music > My music and Videos. 1 2 3 Select a video. Select Play. To pause or resume playing, press the scroll key. Fast-forward or rewind Press and hold the scroll key to the right or left.
Music and audio 4 5 23 Select the loudspeakers. You may need to enter a passcode. For details, see the user guide of the loudspeakers. FM radio About the FM radio Select Menu > Music > Radio. You can listen to FM radio stations using your device - just plug in a headset, and select a station! To listen to the radio, you need to connect a compatible headset to the device. The headset acts as an antenna. It is not possible to listen to the radio through a Bluetooth headset.
Mail and Chat Find and save radio stations Search for your favourite radio stations, and save them, so you can easily listen to them later. Select Menu > Music > Radio. Search for the next available station Press and hold the scroll key left or right. Save a station Select Options > Save station. Automatically search for radio stations Select Options > Search all stations. For best results, search when outdoors or near a window. Switch to a saved station Scroll left or right.
Browse the web 4 5 25 To take a picture to attach to the mail, select Options > Attach > Attach new picture. Select Send. Read and reply to mail Select Menu > Mail and a mail account. 1 2 Select a mail. To reply to or forward a mail, select Options. About Chat Select Menu > Messaging > Chat. You can exchange instant messages with your friends. Chat is a network service. If you do not have a chat account, you can create a Nokia account, and use Nokia Chat.
Browse the web For availability, pricing, and instructions, contact your service provider. You may receive the configuration settings required for browsing as a configuration message from your service provider. Browse the web Select Menu > Internet. View your browsing history, featured sites, or your bookmarks To switch between the History, Featured, and Favourites tabs, scroll left or right. Go to a website Select the address bar, and enter the address.
Browse the web 27 Fit a web page to your phone display Your web browser can optimise web pages for your phone display. Instead of having to zoom in, the web page is arranged into a single column of larger, readable text and pictures. Select Menu > Internet. Select Options > Tools > Column view. To quickly go to different sections of a web page, select from the following: / Go to the previous or next section of the web page. Sign in to the web page. Go to the main section of the web page.
Nokia services Nokia services Nokia Services With Nokia Services, you can find new places and services, and stay in touch with your friends. You can do, for example, the following: • • Download games, applications, videos, and ringtones to your phone Get a free Nokia Mail account Some items are free of charge, others you may need to pay for. The available services may also vary by country or region, and not all languages are supported. To use Nokia Services, you need a Nokia account.
Find help 29 Record a video Besides taking pictures with your phone, you can also capture your special moments as videos. Select Menu > Photos > Video camera. 1 2 3 To switch from image mode to video mode, if necessary, select Options > Video camera. To start recording, select Record. To zoom in or out, scroll up or down. To stop the recording, select Stop. Videos are saved in Menu > Photos > My videos. Close the camera Press the end key.
• • • Find help Reboot your phone. Switch off the phone, and remove the battery. After about a minute, replace the battery, and switch on the phone. Update your phone software Restore the original factory settings If your issue remains unsolved, contact Nokia for repair options. Go to www.nokia.com/repair. Before sending your phone for repair, always back up your data.
Find help 1 2 3 4 31 Select Device > Device updates. To display the current software version, select Current sw details. To download and install a software update, select Downl. device sw. Follow the displayed instructions. If the installation was cancelled after the download, select Install sw update. The software update may take several minutes. If there are problems with the installation, contact your service provider.
Protect the environment After restoring the original settings, your phone switches off and then on again. This may take longer than usual. Organise files You can move, copy, and delete files and folders, or create new folders in your phone memory or on the memory card. If you organise your files into their own folders, it might help you find the files in future. Select Menu > Apps > Gallery. Create a new folder In the folder where you want to create a sub-folder, select Options > Add folder.
Product and safety information 33 Recycle When this phone has reached the end of its working life, all of its materials can be recovered as materials and energy. To guarantee the correct disposal and reuse, Nokia co-operates with its partners through a program called We:recycle. For information on how to recycle your old Nokia products and where to find collection sites, go to www.nokia.com/werecycle, or call the Nokia Contact Center. Recycle packaging and user guides at your local recycling scheme.
• Product and safety information Unauthorised modifications may damage the device and violate regulations governing radio devices. • Do not drop, knock, or shake the device. Rough handling can break internal circuit boards and mechanics. • Only use a soft, clean, dry cloth to clean the surface of the device. • Do not paint the device. Paint can clog moving parts and prevent proper operation. • Switch off the device and remove the battery from time to time for optimum performance.
Product and safety information 35 Accidental short-circuiting can happen when a metallic object touches the metal strips on the battery, for example, if you carry a spare battery in your pocket. Short-circuiting may damage the battery or the connecting object. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as they may explode. Dispose of batteries according to local regulations. Recycle when possible. Do not dispose as household waste.
Product and safety information • Turn the wireless device off if there is any reason to suspect that interference is taking place. • Follow the manufacturer directions for the implanted medical device. If you have any questions about using your wireless device with an implanted medical device, consult your health care provider.
