Get started Bottom 1 2 Charger connector Wrist strap hole Touch screen To control your phone, lightly touch the screen with your fingertips. The screen does not respond when you use your fingernails. If your fingertips are cold, the screen may not respond to your touch. Important: Avoid scratching the touch screen. Never use an actual pen, pencil, or other sharp object on the touch screen. Change the volume of a call, song, or video Use the volume keys.
Get started 9 Tip: To unlock, you can also press the menu key, and select Unlock. Set the keys and screen to lock automatically > Settings and Phone > Display > Screen/keylock time-out. 1 Select 2 Define the length of time after which the keys and screen are locked automatically. Insert or remove the SIM card Do not attach any stickers to your SIM card. Important: This device is designed to be used with a standard SIM card (see figure) only.

Remove the SIM card 1 Switch the phone off. 2 Use your fingernail to open the cover of the memory card slot. 3 Open the cover of the SIM card slot, and push the card in, until you hear a click. 4 Pull the card out. Insert or remove the memory card Memory cards are sold separately.
Get started 11 Do not attach any stickers to your memory card. Use only compatible memory cards approved by Nokia for use with this device. Incompatible cards may damage the card and the device and corrupt data stored on the card. You can record high-definition videos. If recording to a memory card, for best performance, use a fast, high-quality microSD card from a well‑known manufacturer. The recommended microSD card class is 4 (32 Mbit/s (4 MB/s)) or higher.
Get started Remove the memory card 1 If the phone is switched on, press the power key, and select Remove [memory card name]. 2 Use your fingernail to open the cover of the memory card slot. 3 Push the card in, until it is released. 4 Pull the card out. Charging About the battery Your phone has an internal, nonremovable, rechargeable battery. Use only Nokia approved chargers designated for this phone. You can also use a compatible USB data cable to charge your phone.
Get started 13 If the phone indicates a low charge, do the following: 1 2 You do not need to charge the battery for a specific length of time, and you can use the phone while it is charging. If the battery is completely discharged, it may take several minutes before the charging indicator is displayed or before any calls can be made. If the battery has not been used for a long time, to begin charging, you may need to connect the charger, then disconnect and reconnect it.
Get started To avoid breaking the charger connector, be careful when connecting or disconnecting the charger cable. Antenna locations Avoid touching the antenna area while the antenna is in use. Contact with antennas affects the communication quality and may reduce battery life due to higher power level during operation. The antenna area is highlighted.
Get started 15 Attach the wrist strap Thread the wrist strap, and tighten it. Headset You can connect a compatible headset or compatible headphones to your phone. Do not connect products that create an output signal, as this may damage the device. Do not connect any voltage source to the Nokia AV connector. If you connect an external device or headset, other than those approved by Nokia for use with this device, to the Nokia AV connector, pay special attention to volume levels.
Get started Use your phone for the first time Your phone guides you through the initial setup when you insert your SIM card and switch your phone on for the first time. To use Nokia services, create a Nokia account. You can also copy your contacts and other content from your previous phone. You can also subscribe to the My Nokia service, to receive helpful tips and tricks on how to make the most of your phone. To start an action, select . To skip an action, select .
Get started 17 Your previous phone needs to support Bluetooth. Select 1 > Settings > Connectivity > Data transfer > Phone switch. Basic use 25 Activate predictive text input with the virtual keypad Predictive text input is based on a built-in dictionary to which you can add new words. For example, to write Nokia when the English dictionary is selected, select 6 for N, 6 for o, 5 for k, 4 for i, and 2 for a.
Basic use The touch screen and keys are locked. Someone has tried to call you. You have unread messages. If the message indicator is blinking, your Inbox folder may be full. You have a missed calendar event. An alarm is set. Messages are waiting to be sent in the Outbox folder. You're using your second phone line (network service). Incoming calls are forwarded to another number (network service). If you have two phone lines, a number indicates the active line. Your phone is ready for an internet call.
Basic use 27 Network indicators Your phone is connected to a GSM network (network service). Your phone is connected to a 3G network (network service). A GPRS data connection (network service) is opening or closing. A GPRS data connection is open. A GPRS data connection is on hold. An EGPRS data connection (network service) is opening or closing. An EGPRS data connection is open. An EGPRS data connection is on hold. A 3G data connection (network service) is opening or closing.
2 Basic use To search on the internet, select the internet search link at the end of the search results. You need an active internet connection. Tip: You can add a search widget to the home screen. Tap and hold an empty area of the home screen, then select Add widget and the search widget from the list. Use your phone offline In places where you do not want to make or receive calls, you may still access your calendar, contacts list, and offline games if you activate the offline profile.

Customization 35 The contact is removed from the home screen, but remains in your contacts list. Organize your applications Want to find your most used applications more quickly? Telephone Tip: You can automatically forward declined calls to your voice mailbox or another phone number. Call forwarding is a network service. > Settings and Calling > Call forwarding > Voice calls > If busy > Select Activate > To voice mailbox or To other number. Turn to silence If your phone rings in a situation where you do not want to be disturbed, you can turn the phone to silence the ringtone. Activate the turn to silence feature > Settings and Phone > Sensor settings > Silence calls > On.

Telephone Call restriction and call forwarding cannot be active at the same time. Allow calls only to certain numbers You can allow calls only to family members or other key phone numbers, and block all other phone numbers. Select > Contacts and > SIM numbers > Fixed dialing numbers. Not all SIM cards support the fixed dialing service. You need your PIN2 code from your service provider. Activate fixed dialing > Activate fixed dialing. Enter the PIN2 code.
Telephone 45 Set up video sharing To set up video sharing, you need person-to-person and 3G connection settings. A person-to-person connection is also known as a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) connection. The SIP profile settings must be configured in your phone before you can use video sharing. Contact your service provider for the SIP profile settings, and save them to your phone. Your service provider may send you the settings in a configuration message or give you a list of the needed parameters.
Contacts Continue sharing Press and hold the menu key, swipe left or right, and select the active call and Resume video sharing. Stop sharing video Select Stop. To end the voice call, select also ends. > . When you end the call, video sharing Save automatically the live video you shared > Settings and Connectivity > Video sharing > Video saving > On. Select If you allow automatic synchronization, all the changes you make in the contacts list are automatically backed up to Nokia Services. You need a Nokia account to use Nokia Services.
Messaging 3 To select recipients from the contacts list, select > Add recipient. Select the text input field, write your message, and select . 4 To add an attachment, select 5 Select 51 . . Sending a message with an attachment may be more expensive than sending a normal text message. For more information, contact your service provider. You can send text messages that are longer than the character limit for a single message. Longer messages are sent as two or more messages.

Read a received message When you receive a message, there is a notification displayed on the home screen. You can open the message directly from the home screen. Select Show to open the message. Internet Search the internet Select the web address bar, enter the search word, and select the first item in the drop-down menu below the web address bar. Zoom in or out. Social networks About Social Select > Social, and sign in to the social networking services that you use.
Social networks See your friends' status updates in one view When you are signed in to social networking services through the Social application, you can see your friends' status updates from all those services in a single view. You do not have to switch between different applications to see what everyone is up to. Select 1 2 3 4 > Social. Select a service, and sign in. Select Add social network. Select another service, and sign in. Select All Activity.
Social networks 61 Upload a picture or video to a service Use the Social application to upload your pictures or videos to social networking services, such as Facebook. Select 1 2 3 4 5 > Social, and sign in to a social networking service. Select . Select whether to upload a picture or video. To mark the items to upload, select the items. The maximum file size is 4 MB for pictures and 10 MB for videos.
Camera Contact a friend from a social networking service When commenting your friend's status is not enough, you can call or send a message to the friend. Select 1 2 3 > Social. Select a friend's profile picture. From the pop-up menu, select View contact info. Select a communication method. This feature is available if you have linked your online friends to their contact information in your phone. The available communication methods vary.
Camera 1 2 63 Press the camera key halfway down to lock the focus on an object (not available in landscape or sport scene modes). A green locked focus indicator is displayed. If the focus is not locked, a red focus indicator is displayed. Release the camera key, and press it halfway down again. You can also take a picture without locking the focus. Press the camera key fully down. Do not move the phone before the picture is saved and the final picture displayed. Zoom in or out. Use the volume keys.
Camera contains location information, the location information may be visible to those who view the picture or video. You can deactivate geotagging in the camera settings. Activate the location recording feature > > Save location info > Yes. Select It may take several minutes to obtain the coordinates of your location.
Camera 65 Take a picture of a moving object Are you at a sports event and want to capture the action with your phone? Use sport mode to take sharper pictures of moving people. When you zoom in, the image quality may decrease. The camera activates battery saving mode after about a minute of inactivity.

Music and audio cause interference to the transmission. The operating frequency of the FM transmitter varies by region. The FM transmitter may cause interference to nearby FM radios operating on the same frequency. To avoid interference, always search for a free FM frequency on the receiving radio before activating the FM transmitter. The FM transmitter cannot be used at the same time as the FM radio of your phone. Note: Using the FM transmitter may be restricted in some countries.
Music and audio 79 It is not possible to listen to the radio through a Bluetooth headset. You can listen to the radio even when offline mode is activated in your phone and you do not have cellular network coverage. The quality of the radio broadcast depends on the FM radio signal coverage at your location. You can make or answer a call while listening to the radio. Connectivity 113 Connect to a wireless headset With a wireless headset you can answer a call even if your phone is not directly at hand, and you can have your hands free, for example, to continue working at your computer during a call. Wireless headsets are available separately. Select 1 2 3 4 5 > Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth. To activate Bluetooth, select Bluetooth > On. Switch the headset on. Open the Paired devices tab . Select the headset.
Connectivity 3 Activate Bluetooth in the car kit accessory. When remote SIM mode is activated, Remote SIM mode is displayed on the home screen. The connection to the wireless network is closed, and you cannot use SIM card services or features that require cellular network coverage. To make or receive calls when in remote SIM mode, you need to have a compatible accessory, such as a car kit, connected to your device. Your device will only allow emergency calls in this mode.

Connect a USB mass storage device You can use a USB On-The-Go (OTG) adapter to connect your phone to a compatible USB memory stick or hard drive.
