SK 105E…175E Motor Starter Manual 4.4 PROFIBUS PROFIBUS DP allows the exchange of data between a wide range of automation devices. PLC's, PC's, operating and monitoring devices can all communicate via a uniform bus in serial bit mode. PROFIBUS DP is primarily used for communication between sensor and actuator where system response needs to be very fast. PROFIBUS is used where the time for rapid and complex communication between the individual devices is critical.
4 Commissioning The bus connection is made via jumpers, see the following illustration. PROFIBUS jumpers: Termination resistor switched off. Termination resistor switched on. Position of the PROFIBUS connection terminal and the jumper for bus termination 4.4.3 Addressing Addressing of the starter is carried out via two decimal rotary coding switches, see the following illustration. The PROFIBUS address of the starter can be set within a range of 1 to 99 with the rotary coding switch.
SK 105E…175E Motor Starter Manual 4.4.4 Displays The status of the starter in the PROFIBUS is indicated by the "BR" LED. LED Meaning OFF No cyclic process data communication active. See below for causes ON Normal operation, cyclic process data communication in operation As soon as this LED lights up green, the starter is in cyclic mode. This means that the PLC has detected the starter on the bus, has configured it and communicates with it.
4 Commissioning 4.4.5 Process data Process data are used to control the motor starter and communicate its status. The transfer of this data is carried out cyclically. There is only one process data object (PDO) for the motor starter, with a fixed data length of 1 Byte. A differentiation is made between the setpoint PPO (from the PLC to the starter) and the actual value PPO (from the starter to the PLC).
