Intended Use The sprayer is intended for use in spraying agricultural pesticides and other nonflammable liquids. SPRAYING PESTICIDES: Pesticides are hazardous chemicals that must be handled with caution as directed throughout this manual and on the pesticide label. Pesticides are regulated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and defined as: Any substance or mixture of substances intended for preventing, destroying, repelling, or mitigating any pest.

Assembly Step 1 – Tow Bar Hitch Assembly Tools Needed • Insert axle through rear holes in cart assembly. • Note: If axle does not fit smoothly through holes in cart assembly, cart bolts may need to be loosened.

Assembly Step 3 – Cart to Tank Assembly – 282780 Only Tools Needed • • • • • 1/2” wrench • Torque wrench Place tank upside down on flat surface. Align cart assembly on bottom of tank. Insert bolts and torque to 5 Ft.-Lbs. Note: if holes do not properly align with tank inserts, loosen bolts on cart. After securing cart to tank, re-tighten cart bolts. • Thread drain cap on to tank until hand tight.
Assembly Step 3 – Cart to Tank Assembly – 282785 Only Tools Needed • • • • • 1/2” wrench • Torque wrench Place tank upside down on flat surface. Align cart assembly on bottom of tank. Insert bolts and torque to 5 Ft.-Lbs. Note: if holes do not properly align with tank inserts, loosen bolts on cart. After securing cart to tank, torque cart bolts to 20 Ft.-Lbs. • Thread drain cap on to tank until hand tight.
Assembly Step 4 – Wheel Assembly Tools Needed • • • • • Pliers Insert wheels onto axle. Install axle washer. Insert axle pin through hole in axle. Note: Check that tires are inflated to the correct pressure.
Assembly Step 5 – Suction Tube Assembly Tools Needed • Insert black PVC suction tube through grommet near rear of tank. Note: wet suction tube with soap and water solution before inserting through grommet to ease installation. • Remove tank cap and insert suction strainer on to end of suction tube. • Insert suction tube until the suction strainer touches bottom of tank.
Assembly Step 6 – Hose Wrap Assembly Tools Needed • Align upper and lower hose wrap brackets with inserts in tank. • Insert bolts and torque to 5 Ft.-Lbs.
Assembly Step 7 – Pump Assembly Tools Needed • Remove shipping plugs from pump ports. • Insert regulator assembly into Outlet port of pump and slide red QC clip closed. • Insert hose barb fitting into Inlet port of pump and slide red QC clip closed. • N/A NOTE: To insert quick connect fittings, lubricate O-ring with water and twist fitting while inserting into pump port.
Assembly Step 8 – Pump to Tank Assembly Tools Needed • Apply soap to bypass fitting on regulator. • Press bypass fitting into the grommet. • Install (1) long screw through tether, washer and front left pump foot and into threaded hole in tank until tight. • Install (3) short screws through washers and pump feet and into threaded holes in tank until tight. Note: damage to rubber pump feet could occur if screws are over-tightened.
Assembly Step 9 – Boom Bracket Assembly Tools Needed • Insert bolts through boom bracket slots and into threaded inserts in the tank. Torque to 5 Ft.-Lbs. • Slide hose clamp over hose. • Install hose onto hose barb on regulator assembly. Secure with hose clamp until tight.
Assembly Step 10 – Boom Bracket Assembly Tools Needed • Insert bolts through boom brackets slot and into threaded inserts in the tank. Torque to 5 Ft.-Lbs. • Slide hose clamp onto hose. • Install hose onto hose barb tee. Secure with hose clamp until tight.
Assembly Step 11 – Draw Tube Hose Assembly Tools Needed • • • • • Flat head screwdriver Slide hose clamps over both ends of draw tube hose. Slide short end of hose over PVC draw tube. Slide long end of hose over hose barb elbow fitting. Secure both ends with hose clamps until tight.
Assembly Step 12 – Hose to Spray Gun Assembly Tools Needed • Slide hose clamp over the end of the gun hose. • Push the hose onto the gun hose barb. • Slide the hose clamp over the hose barb and tighten.
Assembly Step 13 – Spray Gun Hose to Pump Assembly Tools Needed • Route gun hose through hose clip. • Slide hose clamp over end of gun hose. • Push the hose onto the pump hose barb fitting and tighten hose clamp. • Align hose clip with threaded insert on the side of the tank. Insert bolt and torque to 5 Ft.-Lbs.
Assembly Step 14 – Hitch Bracket Assembly Tools Needed • Align the hitch bracket with the hitch on the tow bar assembly. (Note: there are several different mounting locations depending on the hitch height of the towing vehicle. Ensure sprayer has slight incline towards the rear of the tank when attached to tow vehicle. This will ensure all the fluid is emptied from tank.) • Insert bolts through holes and secure with nuts. Torque to 27 Ft.-Lbs.
Assembly Step 15 – Connect Sprayer to Towing Vehicle Tools Needed • Secure the sprayer to the tow vehicle with a hitch pin (not included, call 800.270.0810 and order Item#2501946 • Make sure boom nozzles are pointed straight down. If they are not, loosen the nozzle retaining nut, orient the opening of the boom nozzle to point straight down, then retighten the nozzle retaining nut.
Assembly Step Sixteen: Connect remote switch to vehicle battery WARNING Batteries are hazardous because they contain caustic acid, can emit explosive gases, and can cause electric shock. Caution must be exercised when making connections to a battery to avoid shock and contact with the acid, and to prevent any sparking that could lead to an explosion. ALWAYS follow the safety instructions and steps listed below in exact sequence when connecting the sprayer's remote switch to the battery terminals. 1.

Verify connection Verify a complete connection has been made by checking with a DC voltmeter, or by briefly turning the remote switch to the ON position and listening for pump activation. 5. Attach remote switch to vehicle Using supplied Hook & Loop pad, affix remote switch to vehicle in a position that is easily reached from the driver's seat. 6.
Assembly 2. Test with water Test the system for leaks with water: a) Fill the tank with water. b) Connect the remote switch to the pump power cord and turn the remote switch ON. The pump is an "on demand" pump. When turned on, the pump will prime itself, and then turn off. When the gun trigger is squeezed, the pump will automatically start. c) Operate the spray gun by squeezing the gun trigger. d) Check for leaks throughout the system.

Regulator: This controls system pressure. Sprayer Pump: The sprayer pump makes the chemical flow to the spray gun and the nozzle. Gun Clips: Use the gun clips to store the spray gun. Boom Arm: The boom arm holds the nozzle.
Operation – Important Safety Information Now that you have completed and tested your assembly, there is some important safety and health information you need to know with regard to handling and spraying chemicals, as well as vehicle handling with the sprayer attached. WARNING Carefully read and make sure you understand the following safety information before using the sprayer. General Chemical Safety: WARNING Pesticides are hazardous chemicals.

Operation – Important Safety Information Towing/hauling Safety: WARNING The filled sprayer is very heavy. It can crush and cause serious injury if it rolls out of control or tips over. Follow the instructions below for safely towing the sprayer. • • • • • • • • • • • Read vehicle instructions. Review towing safety instructions in your towing/hauling vehicle manual. Driver age. You must be 16 years of age or older to operate the towing/hauling vehicle with the sprayer attached. Securely attached.
Operation – Important Safety Information Sprayer leak Bodily chemical contact Poisoning by ingestion or inhalation Chemical spills In the event that the sprayer develops a leak while spraying chemicals, you must immediately stop spraying. Turn off power to the sprayer and follow the directions below, as applicable. Personal contamination can occur when chemicals splash, spill, or spray directly onto a person. 1.
Operation – Preparing the Sprayer for Each Use If the sprayer has been used previously, it must be prepared BEFORE EACH SUBSEQUENT USE. WARNING Read instructions below carefully for inspecting and preparing the sprayer. Damaged or clogged equipment could result in leaks or uncontrolled spray. Leaks could result in injury to the operator or bystanders from chemical exposure, or cause damage to the environment. Important safety rules: • • • Power off.
Operation – Preparing the Sprayer for Each Use Step One: Assess wind conditions and clear work area. Before you decide to spray, you must determine whether wind conditions are suitable. You must also restrict access to the work area to ensure the safety of bystanders. WARNING Do not spray if wind speeds are greater than 4 MPH or if there are bystanders in the intended spray area. 1. Assess wind speed Assess weather conditions to ensure that it is not too windy to spray.
Operation – Using the Sprayer Step Two: Fill the sprayer. WARNING ALWAYS wear personal protective equipment as directed on the chemical label when handling pesticides. Long pants and sleeves, chemical resistant gloves, and eye protection are strongly recommended. Additional protective gear may be required depending on the particular pesticide. The motor surface temperature can reach temperatures over 70° C. In order to avoid scalding, wear gloves during operation of the sprayer.
Operation – Using the Sprayer 7. Check drain cap Before filling tank, ensure drain cap is securely tightened. Drain cap 8. Fill tank Add pesticide to tank through fill cap: a) Confirm the chemical/water dilution ratios specified on the chemical label. b) Determine chemical and water volumes needed for the planned application, taking into consideration that maximum tank capacity is 21 gallons for Model # 282780. 31 gallon tank capacity for Model # 282785.
Operation – Using the Sprayer Step 3: Operate the sprayer. WARNING ALWAYS wear personal protective equipment as directed on the chemical label when spraying. Long pants and sleeves, chemical-resistant gloves, and eye protection are strongly recommended. Additional protective gear may be required depending on the particular pesticide. 1.
Operation – Using the Sprayer 5. Adjust pressure regulator Turn pressure regulator knob to adjust outlet pressure 1. Turn knob clockwise to increase pressure. 2. Turn knob counter-clockwise to decrease pressure Note: If the pressure regulator knob is completely tightened, the pressure setting will be higher than the pressure switch on the pump (70 psi). Squeeze trigger & adjust nozzle To spray, squeeze the gun trigger. - Twist the spray nozzle to adjust from a straight stream to hollow cone spray pattern, as recommended on the chemical label for proper delivery rate. Note: It is not unusual for the operator to be exposed to chemical drips while adjusting the nozzle – gloves should be chemical resistant. Retaining nut Spray nozzle 8. Operate broadcast boom A.
Operation – Using the Sprayer C. Ensure correct spray pattern Make sure both boom nozzles are pointed toward the ground. If they are not, loosen the nozzle retaining nut, orient the opening of the boom nozzle to point straight down, then retighten the nozzle retaining nut. Nozzle retaining nut Boom nozzle IMPORTANT: Make sure broadcast nozzles are oriented to spray straight down before you start. An incorrectly positioned broadcast nozzle may spray chemicals on you or others.
Operation – Using the Sprayer Step Four: Clean sprayer and decontaminate after use. When done using the sprayer, it is important to clean the sprayer and decontaminate yourself. Do not store the sprayer with chemicals in the tank, as it is unsafe and could also result in damage to the equipment. WARNING Clean-up and decontamination procedures must be followed after each use.
Storage When not in use, store the sprayer indoors. For long term or winter storage, prepare the sprayer by running RV antifreeze through the system. This will keep internal parts lubricated, protect against corrosion, and keep the unit from freezing. CAUTION The sprayer will be damaged if it freezes. Protect the sprayer from freezing during storage by following the instructions below. Preparing for storage: 1. Add antifreeze Pour 1 gallon of RV antifreeze into the tank.
Storage 2. Adjust tow bar Slide tow bar towards axle until bolt holes line up. Insert bolts and tighten nuts. 3. Secure with bolts and nuts Insert bolts and tighten nuts.
Storage 4. Remove tow bar and wheels Remove hair pins and washers. Slide wheels off the axle and then remove the axle from the cart. 5. Insert into hitch bracket Insert axle into hitch bracket. Install wheels and washers, secure with hair pins.
Storage 6. Wheels in storage position 7. Remove boom arm pins Remove pins from boom arms. Caution: Boom arms are spring loaded. When the pin is removed, the boom arms will want to swing towards the front of the sprayer. Retain boom arm with hand before removing pin.
Storage 8. Boom arm storage position Rotate each boom arm towards the front to its storage position. 9. Insert boom arm pins Lock boom arms into their storage position by inserting boom arm pins.
Storage 10. Optional: Hang sprayer on wall Located on the underside of the tow bar is a mounting hole that can be used to hang the sprayer on a wall. Note: Hook is not included, hook is supplied by customer. Wall Hook Mounting hole Removing from storage: 1. Drain Drain the antifreeze left in the tank through the tank drain hole into a suitable container. 2. Flush with water Fill the tank with fresh water and run through the system. Operate the spray gun until the system is completely flushed.
Troubleshooting WARNING Before troubleshooting or attempting to service, read the following safety rules to avoid accidental exposure to chemical and also risk of electric shock. Note: A reserve, clean container capable of holding at least 21 gallons (Model # 282780) or 31 gallons (Model # 282785) should be kept for use when the sprayer tank needs to be emptied temporarily for repairs.

This is a very important step in operating the tow behind broadcast sprayer such that too much or too little chemical may be applied. 1.
