of howloudlyyouspeakandhowMacSpeechDictatehasadjustedthemicro-
phonesoundinputlevel;andthehorizontalgainindicatorslidermovesleftand
rightasMacSpeechDictateexperimentswithdifferentsoundinputlevels.When
MacSpeechDictatehasheardenough,andhassetyourmicrophonesoundinput
leveloptimally,itwillturnoff themicrophoneandswitchawayfromthiswindow
automatically.If youreachtheendof theparagraphbeforethathappens,start
readingaloudfromthebeginningagain.
note.YoucancheckManualGainSettingif youwanttooperatetheslider
yourself,butMacSpeechDictateshouldbeabletodoabetterjobof adjusting
yourmicrophonesoundinputlevelthanyouwould.

lastlittlebitof yourspeech.Listentomakesurethatyourspeechlevelisclearand
undistorted.PressPlaytoheartherecordingagain.Makesurethereisnostatic,
excessnoise,orhum.Suchproblemsareprobablyasignof faultymicrophone
hardwareorabadconnection.If youthinkthere’saproblemwiththerecording,
andyou’dliketoperformthemicrophonesoundleveladjustmentagain,clickthe
left-arrowbuttonatthelowerrighttoreturntothepreviouswindow.(See“Sound
