2.2 BASIC INFORMATION
2.2.1 FEVER
Fever is a state of elevated body temperature.
Body
temperature:
"normal" is considered to be around 36.5 to 37.0 °C (97.7 to
98.6 °F). The highest values are measured in the early
evening. Measurements differ according to where the
temperature is taken (mouth, armpit, anus, ear, temple,
forehead).
Causes:
fever may be due to colds, other illnesses such as
respiratory infections, some intestinal infections,
hyperthyroidism or the presence of tumours.
Symptoms and
diagnoses:
sweating, shivering or chills are indications of an elevated
body temperature.
You should
contact a doctor:
when a fever starts to have a debilitating effect on the
organism. This depends heavily on the age, constitution and
current state of health of the person affected.
2.2.2 FEVER THERMOMETER
The NUK Flash Thermometer measures body temperature on the forehead by means of
an infrared sensor; no skin contact is necessary.
In forehead mode, the practical fever warning display indicates that an elevated temperature
has been measured. In other words, if this reaches ≧ 37.5 °C (99.5 °F), one long and three
short consecutive beeps are heard.
Only operate and store the device in accordance with the specified ambient
conditions.
