Product Name: Polyurethane bonded rubber products
Page 2 of 3
SECTION 5 - FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES
Approximate auto-ignition temperature: 435°C (815°F)
GENERAL HAZARDS: This product will support combustion. Products of combustion include
compounds of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen, including carbon monoxide. Excessive smoke is possible. Use
self contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes.
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Carbon dioxide, water, water fog, dry chemical, chemical foam
FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Fire fighters should wear full-face self-controlled breathing apparatus
when fighting a fire. A solid stream of water may scatter and spread fire as non-extinguished burning pieces
may break off and spread the fire. Rubber fires are sometimes best extinguished by deprivation of oxygen,
then allowed to fully cool.
UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: Excessive heat or flame may ignite rubber, causing a
slow or rapid burning and intensely hot fire with intense smoke. Incomplete combustion can produce oils
and dense soot (carbon black). It is possible for rubber to smolder for an extended time. After a fire, be
certain that the material is completely extinguished before disposal.
HAZARDOUS COMBUSTION PRODUCTS: Smoke and fumes, (carbon monoxide, hydrogen cyanide),
oxides of carbon and nitrogen oxides
SECTION 6 - ENVIRONMENTAL RELEASE MEASURES
STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN THE EVENT OF SPILL OR RELEASE INTO THE ENVIRONMENT:
Recover the product for re-use.
SECTION 7 - HANDLING AND STORAGE
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORAGE:
Avoid storage in extremely hot environments.
SECTION 8 - EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONAL PROTECTION
PERSONAL PROTECTION: No emissions if cut with a utility knife. Possible emissions if other electric
cutting devices are used in such a way that the product is heated or able to melt. If necessary, use respirator
or ensure proper ventilation is present.
