The 56800E core is based on a dual Harvard-style architecture consisting of three execution units
operating in parallel, allowing as many as six operations per instruction cycle. The MCU-style
programming model and optimized instruction set allow straightforward generation of efficient, compact
DSP and control code. The instruction set is also highly efficient for C compilers to enable rapid
development of optimized control applications.
The MC56F825x/MC56F824x supports program execution from internal memories. Two data operands
per instruction cycle can be accessed from the on-chip data RAM. A full set of programmable peripherals
supports various applications. Each peripheral can be independently shut down to save power. Any pin
except power pins can also be configured as General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO).
1 Application examples
The MC56F825x/MC56F824x includes many peripherals that are especially useful for industrial control,
motion control, home appliances, general-purpose inverters, smart sensors, fire and security systems,
switched-mode power supplies, power management, UPSs, and medical monitoring applications.
1.1 Digital power supply
Figure 1 shows the MC56F825x/MC56F824x used in controlling a secondary DC-DC phase shifting
converter in a typical industrial isolated AC/DC power supply. This topology is being widely used in
telecom power supplies, server power supplies, and other industrial equipment.

1.2 Servo motor
Figure 2 shows a high precision servo motor control system that is controlled by an MC56F825x device.
