The Onyx Marble Sink Design
Since marble and onyx are porous, they do have the potential to stain. Because these
sinks are polished, the pores are minimized but nonetheless it is important to dry away
excess liquid from the sink. Should you spill chemicals or dyes onto the sink, wipe the
liquid away as soon as possible. To remove buildup or soap scum, clean off the sink
using nonabrasive detergent, warm water, and a soft sponge or cloth. Ordinary dish
detergent is effective as well but be sure to rinse and dry the onyx or marble after
application.
To clean watermarks and stains from your natural onyx or marble sink, commercial
quality stone cleaning solutions are by far the most effective. These can usually be found
at your local hardware store. Avoid using tile cleaners, tub cleaners, alcohol, vinegar,
ammonia, window cleaners, lemon juice, acidic or abrasive cleaners or any type of metal
brush. As stated earlier, to prevent staining, make sure you wash away all deposits,
liquids, and other products which fall into the sink.
To extend the life of your sink a couple of times a year use a stone sealer on your onyx or
marble sink. Sealers are typically available in any of the large home improvement
retailers or tile and countertop stores.
