Optilumen LED Strip Custom Cutting Guide Fixture size range: 8ft to 1ft
To begin The Optilumen LED Retrofit kit fits many different facets of lighting. From outdoor signage, industrial 16-foot suspended fixtures, high bays, classrooms, offices and even residential applications. Our kits fit the bill anywhere there’s a tube. The LED Strips have segmented trace marks throughout the strip that allows the owner to modify/trim the strip, at a straight score mark located between the 12th and 13th chip count.
Making the cut The trimming step is quite simple. As you will see in the following slides, each trace line is located between every 12th and 13th LED chip. This distance is roughly 4 inches per segment. There are horizontal score marks as a guide to make the cut. Being precise when you cut them straight across will protect your remaining strip and give the material a nicer finish. Strips that are magnetically backed or thermal-adhesively backed may cut at slightly different pressures.
Step 1: Locate a pair of metal sheers, side cutters or tin snips. Find the trace line on the strips. Make sure to always be cutting at the opposite end of your connector side, working your way in. Score the cut straight across the trace line.
Step 2: With your cutting tool, finish the cut straight across, cleanly. Once the strip is cut, the portion that no longer has the connector attached will no longer function and/or work.
Step 3: Discard your removed strip. You are now ready to mount the strips in the desired application, with wire harness connector end directed closer to the Optilumen driver. Please refrain from plugging in the live harness wire while being turned on. A key feature to remember is we always underdrive our LED chips so they are capable of producing the same amount of delivered light before you made the cut(s).
Project complete! Your Optilumen Retrofit Kit is ready to operate. Following our instructions, you ensure a fullfunctioning application upon making your desired cuts. One single 2-strip/4’ kit can replace a 2-lamp/8ft fixture, all the way down to a 1’ fixture. Please check with your sales representative on determining the best wattage for a 1’ fixture application as to not overdrive the strip. The possibilities are endless and the item is simple.
