The Right Position for Your Child’s Weight and Height cont’d Seat Positions & Vehicle Restraint Options Usage Recommendations Rear-Facing Considerations: When used Rear-Facing, the Toddler Car Seat can be docked on the Orbit Base or installed by itself with the addition of the included Braces. Safety technicians recommend keeping children in a RearFacing position for as long as possible. Important Notice: The Orbit Base has been updated to extend its usage for the Toddler Car Seat.
A Seat Positions & Vehicle Restraint Options cont’d Usage Recommendations Guidelines: - Never secure the Toddler Car Seat Rear-Facing in a seating location with a front airbag. Check your vehicle owner’s manual regarding air bag compatibility with child carseats (Figure A). B - Only install the Toddler Car Seat in forward-facing vehicle seats. Do not install carseat in side-facing or rearfacing vehicle seats (Figure B & C).
Seat Positions & Vehicle Restraint Options cont’d Starting with the 2003 model year, all vehicles are required to have one or more seating positions with LATCH attachment system for carseats (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children). Many manufacturers began including LATCH systems with their 2000 model year vehicles. Refer to your vehicle owner’s manual to locate all anchors. The lower anchors may be visible at the vehicle seat crease; if not, their locations may be marked with the symbol to the right.
Seat Positions & Vehicle Restraint Options cont’d 22 Pay careful attention to the type of LATCH anchors and vehicle seat belts that are in your vehicle; some cargo anchors that are unsafe to use with child restraints look the same as LATCH anchors. When Using the Orbit Base Rear-Facing Installation Upholstery Lower Panel Never operate your vehicle unless the Toddler Car Seat is LOCKED into the Rear-Facing position. Check both Rotation Indicators on the Base. If either Rotation Indicator is red, re-secure the Toddler Car Seat to properly lock into the Base.
B Docking the Toddler Car Seat on the Orbit Base Rear-Facing Installation Securing the Toddler Car Seat to the Base requires first lowering the Toddler Car Seat to snap into the SmartHubTM, then rotating the Toddler Car Seat to lock into the RearFacing Position. C 1. Make sure the top of the Base and SmartHub are clear of objects before docking the Toddler Car Seat. 2. Grasp the Toddler Car Seat firmly (Photo B).
H 6. Do a final CHECK each time you redock: pull the Toddler Car Seat in several directions (Photo H) to be certain it is locked. It should not rotate out of the Rear-Facing position. If it does, remove the carseat and contact Orbit Baby. Rear-Facing Installation To rotate and remove the Toddler Car Seat from the Base: I 1. Squeeze one or both Release Levers upward (Photo I). As you squeeze the Release Levers, the Hub Locks retract and the Toddler Car Seat can be rotated. 2.

Push in and turn to change position of locking knob. N O 2. Position each Brace on the appropriate side of the carseat for Rear-Facing use: Make sure that the BLUE strip on the Brace is aligned with the BLUE Rear Facing strip at the back of the carseat, and that the FRONT OF VEHICLE arrow will face the front of your vehicle (Photo N). 3.
R S T 44 Removing the Braces Installation with Braces & LATCH System (without Orbit Base) 1. Remove the Toddler Car Seat from your car or have the Toddler Car Seat docked securely either directly Forward- or Rear-Facing on the Orbit Stroller. 1. Attach the Braces in a Rear-Facing position: see pages 41-43. 2. Turn the Locking Knob on the Brace to the UNLOCKED position by first pushing it in, then turning (Photo R). 2.
A B D 6. Position the carset Rear-Facing on the vehicle seat. The child seat should face the rear of the vehicle. The FRONT OF VEHICLE arrow on the Braces should point to the front of your vehicle. 10. Secure the open Blue Lock-Off Clamp firmly upon the LATCH belt by flipping the two Clamp arms down over the belt and locking them in place. (Listen for a CLICK) (Photo D). 7. Open the Upholstery Lower Panel marked by the Blue Dot. 11.
G Installation with Braces & LATCH System (without Orbit Base) cont’d Rear-Facing Installation 14. CHECK that the Toddler Car Seat is level by looking at the Level Indicator on the Brace (Photo G). If the seat is not level, remove the seat and re-install it by repeating Steps 2 to 13. H 15. If the Toddler Car Seat cannot be secured tightly and level, try any of the following: a) Try installing the Toddler Car Seat in a different seating position. b) Remove the seat.
Installation with Braces & Shoulder-Lap Seat Belts (without Orbit Base) cont’d 6. Push down, and pull sideways on the shoulder portion of the belt to tighten seat belt around the child restraint. Rear-Facing Installation 7. When tight, push down both arms of the open Blue Clamp firmly until it locks (Listen for a CLICK) (Photo M). 50 8. If your car is model year 2000 or newer, it probably has vehicle seat belts with Auto Retraction Mode (consult your vehicle manual).
P Installation with Braces & Lap Style Vehicle Seat Belts (without Orbit Base) Rear-Facing Installation 1. Attach the Braces in a Rear-Facing position: See pages 41-43. Q 2. Position the Toddler Car Seat RearFacing on the seat. The child seat should face the rear of the vehicle. The FRONT OF VEHICLE arrow on the Braces should point to the front of your vehicle. 3. Open the Upholstery Lower Panel marked by the Blue Dot (Photo P). R 4.

If the Toddler Car Seat cannot be secured tightly and leveled, try any of the following: W b) Remove the seat. Position a rolled towel underneath it (Photo W) and repeat steps 2 to 9. c) Seek assistance from one of the resources in the “Need Help Securing Your Toddler Car Seat and Base?” (page 27).

A Braces Forward-Facing Installation Brace Bag B D The Braces are two supports (left and right) that ensure a stable and secure installation of the Toddler Car Seat when installed in the car Foward-Facing (without the Orbit Base). They come in a small bag, the Brace Bag (Photo A), inside the box with your Toddler Car Seat. 3.
G H Removing the Braces 1. Uninstall the Toddler Car Seat from your car. 2. Turn the Locking Knob on the Brace to UNLOCKED by first pushing it in, then turning (Photo G). I 64 The Toddler Car Seat can still be used on the Orbit Stroller when the Braces are installed. Place the Toddler Car Seat either Forward- or Rear-Facing. To restore full rotation on the Orbit Stroller, remove the Braces and store in the Cargo Pod. 3.
M Installation with Braces & LATCH System (without Orbit Base) cont’d 5. When closing the Rear Access Panel, look for the notches near the bottom of the Panel. Position the LATCH Leash in either notch so that the panel closes; fully pull the Tether Strap out of the pocket (Photo M). Secure the Rear Access Panel with the clip. N O 6. Position the carseat Forward-Facing on the vehicle seat.
A Installation with Braces & Shoulder-Lap Seat Belts (without Orbit Base) Forward-Facing Installation 1. Install Orbit Toddler Car Seat Braces, Forward-Facing: See pages 62-63. B 2. If you will be attaching the Tether later (refer to page 72), open the Rear Access Panel and unclip the Tether Hook from the secured ring (Photo A). Pull the Tether Strap out fully and secure the Rear Access Panel with the back clip. 3. Position the Toddler Car Seat on the vehicle seat.
M Installation with Braces & Lap Style Seat Belts (without Orbit Base) Forward-Facing Installation 1. Install Orbit Toddler Car Seat Braces, Forward-Facing: See pages 62-63. N O 2. If you will be attaching the Tether later (refer to page 72), open the Rear Access Panel and unclip the Tether Hook from the secured ring (Photo M). Pull it all the way out and secure the Rear Access Panel with the black back clip. 3. Position the Toddler Car Seat ForwardFacing on the vehicle seat.
S Top Tether Installation Forward-Facing Installation Orbit recommends using the Tether at all times while Forward-Facing if you have a LATCH Tether anchorage in your car; using the Tether will improve the stability of the child restraint and will reduce risk of injury. B C Failure to properly fit the Restraint Harness for your child’s size increases the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a sharp turn, sudden stop or crash. 3. To hold the harness out of the way, secure the Restraint Harness to the sides with the side hook-and-loop fastener dots (Photo C).
G Buckling the Restraint Harness cont’d Securing Your Child 7. Pull up on the Crotch Buckle and the Shoulder Straps to CHECK they are secure (Photo F). DO NOT use the Toddler Car Seat if the Restraint Harness does not feel secure, and contact Orbit Baby. H 8. To tighten the lap section of the Restraint Harness, gently pull up on the Shoulder Straps (Photo G). 9.

Failure to properly fit the Restraint Harness for your child’s size increases the risk of serious injury or death in the event of a sharp turn, sudden stop or crash. For Rear-Facing Installations: Only use the two lowest sets of harness slots. Harness slots must be at or below the child’s’ shoulders (see Photo C and illustration below).
E F Strap Loops Splitter Plate G 82 Adjusting the Restraint Harness to Fit Your Child cont’d H a) Loosen the Restraint Harness by pulling on the Shoulder Straps while pressing the Adjuster Strap Lock (Photo E). f) CHECK that the straps are secured by pulling on the shoulder straps from the front. b) Open the Rear Access Panel and pull on the restraint harness from the front to pull the Splitter Plate up, along with the strap loops.
K Adjusting the Restraint Harness to Fit Your Child cont’d Securing Your Child c) If the Shoulder Straps of the Restraint Harness are still too tight after loosening them all the way, they can be lengthened by using the alternate Strap Loops on the Splitter Plate: Access the Splitter Plate by following steps 1a) through 1c) on page 82. Use either loop setting as shown in the guide below. L Loop A: shorter strap for smaller children 84 The Crotch Buckle itself cannot be lengthened on its strap.

Weight Restrictions A Traveling with Your Toddler Car Seat ! WARNING ! Improper handling of the Toddler Car Seat increases the risk of serious injury and death Weight restriction for child in Toddler Car Seat on Stroller: 40 lbs. B When undocking the Toddler Car Seat from the Orbit Stroller, be sure to grasp the seat firmly by the front rim and the side handle. Never rotate the Toddler Car Seat on the Stroller while it is in motion. Make sure the Toddler Car Seat is locked in place and stable.
92 C 93 Using the Toddler Car Seat on the Orbit Stroller cont’d 1. Lock the parking brakes on both wheels of the Orbit Stroller. Make sure nothing is obstructing the Stroller’s SmartHub. 2. Grasp the sides of the Toddler Car Seat firmly by the front and side (Photo C). D 3. Press the Toddler Car Seat firmly onto the SmartHub of the Stroller until you feel and hear a CLICK (Photo D). 4. CHECK the security of the docking by pulling up on the carseat.
F Your Toddler Car Seat comes with a UV Sunshade. This Sunshade can be used in the car to keep sun off your child and can also be used when the Toddler Car Seat is docked on the Orbit Stroller. Traveling with Your Toddler Car Seat Sunshade Fitting G The Sunshade can easily be stored when not in use in the Rear Access Panel, only in the pocket provided. ! WARNING ! Do not lift the Toddler Car Seat by the Sunshade. The Sunshade could detach and the seat could fall, injuring your child.
The Orbit Toddler Car Seat is certified for use in aircraft and is labeled as such. Most airlines in the U.S. and Canada will allow the use of a carseat that is labeled as an approved child restraint for aircraft use. Always contact the airline about their carseat policy before traveling, and follow their guidelines for carseat use. Note: the Toddler Car Seat can ONLY be used with the included Braces in aircraft – it cannot be used with the Orbit Base in aircraft. 3.

100 A B Side Tab Cleaning The Upholstery can be machine washed for cleaning. Orbit Baby always recommends using a front loading washer and washing the Upholstery inside a pillow case to avoid damage. It can be easily removed WITHOUT detaching the Restraint Harness from the seat shell. Replace the Upholstery once cleaned and dried completely. DO NOT use the Toddler Car Seat without the Upholstery. Removing the Upholstery 5. Unbuckle the Restraint Harness.
102 G H Re-Installing the Upholstery 1. Re-attach the Adjustable Headrest by inserting the two tabs into their corresponding slots and pressing the hook-and-loop fasteners together (Photo G). Ensure that all Restraint Harness buckles are unbuckled, and that all Upholstery fasteners are pulled apart. Position the Upholstery within the Toddler Car Seat. 2. Pull each side of the Restraint Harness through the sides of Center Panel of the Upholstery (Photo H). Secure the Center Panel closed.
104 Cleaning cont’d 105 Metal and Plastic Parts Crotch Buckle and Buckle Tongues Metal and plastic parts on the Toddler Car Seat and Base may be wiped clean with a mild soap and water solution. Towel dry. Do not use household detergents, such as bleach or abrasive agents. These detergents can weaken plastic parts. If a child eats and drinks in the Toddler Car Seat, the Crotch Buckle and Buckle Tongues should be periodically checked and cleaned of any accumulated debris or liquids.
Limited Customer Warranty Maintaining Your Toddler Car Seat What this limited warranty covers and for how long: Orbit Baby, Inc. (“Orbit Baby”) warrants that the product accompanied by this limited warranty is free from manufacturing defects in material or workmanship for a period of two (2) years from the date of original purchase. This warranty only applies to the original purchaser of the product and only to products purchased and used in the United States of America.
Please keep this instruction manual for future use. It can be stored in the pocket inside the Rear Access Panel, at the rear of the Toddler Car Seat.
