FAQ
What is Lumen?
— Specifies the overall visible light output
of a light source, which is emitted in all
directions
What is Candela?
— Specifies the luminous flux, which is
emitted into a certain direction.
What is Lux?
— It is the measurement unit of illumination
intensity. It specifies the luminous flux,
which is emitted on a certain surface. At
1 lux e.g. the human eye can easily read
a book.
What is ECE?
— United Nations Economic Commision for
Europe
What is an E-Mark?
— An E-Mark can be put on a product if it
fullfills at least one category of the ECE
regulation.
What is the Reference Number?
— The reference number is a value that is
related to the high beam headlight which
is regulated in ECE R112. Every certified
high beam headlight has a reference
number marked on it either left or right
to the E-mark sign. According to ECE
R112 the sum of high beam headlights
attached to the car must not exceed a
total of 100.
What is IP?
— The IP Code classifies and rates the
degree of protection provided against
intrusion, dust, accidental contact, and
water by mechanical casings and
electrical enclosures.
Conclusion
— For the driver the pure lumen value has
almost no meaning. The lux value in
connection with the distance is a
significant value to evaluate the
performance of a lamp.
— Mentioning an E-Mark does not
necesarily mean that the product is
street legal. It has to be checked which
ECE categories are fullfilled.
