Figure 6 Repeated Charging (1
st
and 2
nd
Cycles)
Example of Multiple Cycles
In Figure 6 (Cycle 1), the charger initially completes Absorption. When the Absorption timer expires,
the cha
rger goes Silent until battery voltage decreases to the
Re-Float
setting. The Float time
r is
reset to its maximum. The
charger proceeds through Refloat and Float until it is interrupted by
a loss
of AC powe
r.
Cycle 2 begins when the AC source is restored. During the AC loss, the battery voltage did not
decrea
se to the
Re-Float
setting, so
Float Time
retains the remainder of the previous cycle.
The
cha
rger returns to Refloat and proceeds through the Float stage. Cycle 2 completes the Floa
t stage
whe
n its timer expires. It then goes Sile
nt.
Note that in Cycle 1,
Abso
rb Time
had expired. It was not reset afterward and retained a “rem
aining
run time” of
zero. The Bulk and Absorb stages do not occur on subsequent cycl
es until the timer
read
s something other than
zero.
This graph is continued in Figure 7. During the Silent period AC is lost again. The battery voltage
decrea
ses until it reaches the Re-Bulk set point. This causes the charger to prepare a new three-
stage cycle from the beginning, but it cannot do so until the AC source is restored
.
