Version 3 Style SWI Harness Wire Description
Purple Loop: When intact, it provides 5 volts to the white wire’s circuit. In some instances the installation instructions will have you
manipulate this connection for specific applications. Leave as is unless vehicle specific instructions indicate otherwise.
Black (X 2): Ground wire. Connects to vehicle ground. In some cases it may be necessary to connect directly to the vehicle chassis to
secure a good ground. Additional ground is supplied for vehicle applications that require you to ground a wire in the vehicle’s harness.
Simply ground one of the black wires from the SWI interface and take the additional black wire and connect to the vehicle’s wire that you
are instructed to provide a ground to.
Blue: HVAC Data Output wire (used with version 4). This wire is only used for specific GM applications where the AC and Fan
controls were located in the steering wheel and were lost when the factory radio is disconnected. The SWI instructions will indicate using
Version 4 for these applications. Version 4 programming requires the Temp and Fan buttons to be programmed before the radio control
buttons (provided programming instructions will indicate the exact procedure).
White: Analog 5 volt Resistive Control wire (used with versions 3, 8, 9 and 11). This wire is used for connection to the steering
wheel control wire for most Honda, Toyota, Nissan applications along with non CAN bus Fords and Harley Davidson motorcycles. Additional
information regarding how to test discussed later (click here).
White/Red: Analog 5 volt Resistive Control wire with 150 Ohm Resistor wired inline (used with versions 3, 8, 9 and 11). This eliminates
the need to use a separate 150 Ohm resistor when instructed (Nissan applications for example). If you are using this wire as a “Y” off of the
white wire to connect to an additional vehicle wire, make sure to account for this resistor.
White/Black: Analog 5 volt Resistive Control wire with 560 Ohm Resistor wired inline (used with versions 3, 8, 9 and 11). This eliminates
the need to use a separate 560 Ohm resistor when instructed (Toyota applications for example). If you are using this wire as a “Y” off of the
white wire to connect to an additional vehicle wire, make sure to account for this resistor.
Red: Accessory 12 volt wire. Connects to accessory 12 volt circuit in vehicle. In some cases it may be necessary to wire to a relay.

Yellow: 12 volt Data Control wire (used with version 5). This wire is used for connection to the steering wheel control wire for many
BMW and Mini applications (non-CAN Bus). Additional info regarding how to test for this wire discussed later (click here).
Orange: 5 volt Data Control wire (used with versions 6 and 7). Most commonly, this wire is used for connection to the radio control
wire for the rear controls in specific Ford applications allowing specific buttons to operate the aftermarket radio. In these cases, you can
use two SWI interfaces (one connected to the front control wire and one connected to the rear control wire) in tandem so that the steering
wheel controls and the rear seat controls can be retained. Radios that use the 3.5 mm jack for the steering wheel control input will require
a Y-Adapter to allow both SWI interface outputs to be connected into the single 3.5 mm jack input on the radio. Additional information

Green: Analog Positive Control wire (used with versions 1 and 2). This wire is used for connection to the steering wheel control wire
for most GM applications along with the steering wheel control output wire from many of the PAC interfaces that convert a data steering
wheel control wire to an analog output (SWI-CAN, SWI-CAN2, OS-4, etc.). Additional information regarding how to test for this wire

Brown Loop: When intact, it provides 560 ohms of resistance to the green wire’s circuit. In some instances the installation instructions
will have you manipulate this connection for specific vehicle applications. Leave as is unless vehicle specific instructions indicate otherwise.
