5. Some radios have an internal steering wheel programming menu. These radios will need to be programmed to the steering
wheel controls after the SWI interface has been successfully programmed to the vehicle. This is generally found on radios
that will have a 3 wire steering wheel control input (SW-A, SW-B and SW-GND). Check the radio’s owner’s manual for
additional information. Some radios have the steering wheel control input turned off as the default setting. This has been
documented in some Kenwood and Sony radios (check the radio’s owner’s manual). It is possible to have a faulty steering
wheel control input on the aftermarket radio. Try testing the SWI with another steering wheel control capable radio (if you
have one available). If you are trying a different brand radio, make sure to unplug the power connector from the SWI
interface and change the radio selector setting to the appropriate setting for the radio and reconnect and test volume up
and down with that radio (reprogramming will not be necessary to test volume up and down).
a. Additionally, some radios have the steering wheel control input turned off by default and you must enter the
radio’s settings menus to turn the input on. Here are some examples of Sony and Kenwood radios that the
steering wheel control input may not operate until the remote control input has been turned on. There may be
additional makes and models of radio that need this than the ones listed here:
Sony CDX-G3100UP Kenwood DDX371 Kenwood DNX572BH
Sony MEX-N5100BT Kenwood DNX892 Kenwood DNX772BH
Sony MEX-B100BT Kenwood DNX692
6. Kenwood models KDC-X598, KDC-BT31BU, KDCBT-758-HD, KDCBT-55BU and KDC-798 are not supported by the SWI-RC.
Substitute the SWI-CP5 in place of the SWI-RC.
7. Clarion model CZ500 does not support Bluetooth commands through the steering wheel control input.
8. JVC model numbers KW-NT1 and KW-NT3HDT do not support Presets up and down commands through the steering wheel
control input.
9. Pioneer AVIC-Fxxx model radio do not support Preset up or down commands through the steering wheel control input.
10. Pioneer with Bluetooth support will not allow the steering wheel controls to adjust the phone call volume. This is a
limitation of the radio, not the SWI-RC.
