i. The CAN interfacing is sending a command to the SWI when you roll the jog dial. With each click, there is
a brief voltage spike being sent. In some cases, the reading is too quick for the SWI to learn the value and
it ends up learning the resting (no buttons pressed) value. When you do a brief and steady roll of the dial,
it should remain visible to the SWI for long enough for it to correctly learn that value.
6. In GM applications, if the OnStar is activating during the button learning procedure, it is likely that the SWI vehicle specific
instructions indicated to cut the brown loop in the SWI harness, and this step was missed. Cut the brown loop if the
instructions specify.
7. If the interface is sending a command to the radio when the steering wheel is turned when using versions 3, 8 or 9 (mostly
late 80’s and early 90’s Honda/Acura applications), try program the SWI for version 11 and go through the button learning
sequence again. This is typically due to wear on the steering wheel’s clock spring.
a. Version 11 will not allow the SWI to output a command until it has verified the value from the steering wheel
control wire 3 times within a matter of milliseconds (the delay will not be enough to be noticeable).
