CAUTION: READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY BEFORE INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the positive battery cable. Raise the vehicle and support it firmly on jack stands or ramps. WARNING:
NEVER GO UNDER A VEHICLE SUPPORTED ONLY BY ITS SERVICE JACK.
2. Disconnect and remove EGR line from the exhaust headpipe.
3. Remove exhaust head pipe from manifold and catalytic converter.
4. Remove air cleaner assembly.
5. Disconnect all linkage, wires, and hoses from the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and carburetor.
TECH-TIP: Mark or tag all linkage, hoses, and wires as they are removed to make installation easier.
6. Remove fan belt and power steering pump.
7. Remove the intake and exhaust manifolds and separate the two units.
8. NOTE: It may be necessary to drill holes in the header for 02 sensor and heat bypass tube. Install 02 sensor
before installing header. The steel heat bypass tube (between the exhaust and intake manifolds) will need to be bent
to fit the header.
9. Ensure that the cylinder head is clean and free of any grease, rust, or gasket material. Install the gasket and
header from above. Fasten the header to the two end studs and two center bolts, hand tighten only.
10. Install intake manifold over alignment studs. Install factory bolts. Tighten header bolts progressively from the
inside working out to the ends of the header.
11. To reinstall the power steering pump, a small amount of the rear bracket may need to be removed. To
accomplish this, remove the rear bracket from the pump. Fasten the bracket to the top hole in the intake manifold and
swing the bracket downward until it makes contact. Mark the contact point and remove the bracket. Using a grinder
or torch remove a 1/4" out of the bracket, and test fit the bracket and ensure that the bracket will bolt cleanly to the
engine block.
12. Reinstall the power steering pump assembly and the fan belt.
13. Reconnect all linkage, wires, and hoses.
14. Before connecting the header to the exhaust system, inspect all points with limited clearance, relocate any that
make contact with header. (It may be necessary to loosen the motor mounts and shift engine to one side for
maximum clearance)
15. Using the gasket provided, fasten the header extension to the catalytic converter. The EGR line can be
reconnected by cutting it above the tube welded to the extension pipe and installing a 3" section of high temperature
3/4" hose and clamps.
16. Connect the two header ends to the "Y" pipe using the 3/8" cap screws, washers, nuts, and compression springs.
17. Install "U"-clamp over-head pipe and extension slip joint and tighten.
18. Installation is complete. Remove jack stands or ramps, and lower the vehicle. Start engine and check for exhaust
leaks. Re-tighten fasteners as required.
NOTE: Check and re-tighten all fasteners and clamps after a few days of operation and thereafter on a periodic
basis.
