To determine door swing ileit or r"ghtl, foce the dosed door from the
outside (the side wnere hinges cannot be seen). Open the door. If the
door swings away irom yeu to your
lek,
it
is a left hand svving door.
If
the door swirgs awoy from you to your right, i; is a right hand swing door.
PARTS OF A DOOR SYSTEM
1. For most installations, the rough
framed opening (the distance between
studs on t~e right and left and the
distance between ;he header and

NOTE: If your door unit has pre-hong·
ing clips (Fig.

until instructed to de so. These clips

Put a generous bead of caulk along
the outside edge of tne sub-floor
and another generous bead of caulk

pre-ranging dips (Fig. 81. oe sure the door opens freely and that he
space between the door and the iamb is even on all sides. Be sure the
weatherstrip meets the door evenly and seals on all sides. Adjust if neces-
sary. If adjusting is necessory, loosen or remove the latch jamb faste'1ers
and adjust the laich jamb until there is even contact with the weolherslrip.
8. Iv\ake
sure
ihe door sweep contacts
the threshold evenly. You can adjust
the threshold contact
by
adjusting
the squoreness of the door unit
or,
if on adjustable
rueshold
is used,
by turning tne edjustment screws
on the
threshoid
(Fig.
9).
9. Re-check for smooth door operation and even spacing between the
door and [ornb. Secure the latch jamb in place wilh two more lOd
finish nails or #8
x
3' drywall screws. Place the ndils or screws evenly
between Ihe first two already in place and fasten through Ihe shims
and into the studs.
10. Install four

lOx 2-1/4" wood
screws through the hirge jamb ond
into the s'uds: two into the top hinge
in the holes closest Ie the weather-
strip; and one each inlo the other
hinges in the top hole closest to
the weatherstrip (Fig.
10j.
You may
need to remove the screws supplied
with the hinges
to
irsert these lorger

lOx 1/4" screws.
