Others Cautions for Use Optimal use of the camera Take care not to drop or knock the unit or put a lot of pressure on it. • Take care not to knock or drop the bag/case that you inserted the camera in as the shock may cause damage to the camera, lens or LCD monitor. • Do not attach any other items to the hand strap that’s included with your camera. While being stored, that item can rest against the LCD monitor and damage it.
Others Maintenance Uninstall the battery or DC coupler (DMW-DCC2: optional: P110) and wipe them with a soft, dry cloth. • When the camera becomes dirty, clean it with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Then wipe the camera with a dry cloth. • Do not use solvents such as benzine, thinner, alcohol or kitchen detergent. This can cause damage to the body of the camera and the surface may peel off. • When using chemically treated cloth, read the instructions beforehand.
Others Batteries Be sure to remove the batteries when you will not be using the camera for a long period of time. • If the temperature is too high or low, the terminals may rust causing a malfunction. If you drop the batteries accidentally, check to see if the body of the batteries and the terminals are damaged. • Inserting a damaged battery in the camera will damage the camera. Bring charged spare batteries when going out.
Others Proper care and handling of batteries Mishandling batteries may cause leakage, heat generation, fire or explosion. Observe the following. • Do not splash batteries with water/sea water or wet battery terminals. • Do not peel off or scratch the covering on batteries. • Do not drop, throw or subject batteries to other strong impacts. • Do not use batteries that show signs of leakage, deformation, discolouration etc. • Do not store batteries in high humidity areas or high temperatures.
Others Ni-MH batteries (Nickel Metal Hydride) You can use Ni-MH batteries after charging them with a nickel metal hydride battery charger. However, improper handling of the batteries may cause leakage, heat generation, fire or explosion. Observe the following. • If there is dirt on the battery poles, you may not be able to charge normally. Clean the battery poles and the battery recharger terminals with a soft, dry cloth.
Others Card Do not leave the card where the temperature is high, where electromagnetic waves or static electricity are easily generated or exposed to direct sunlight. Do not bend or drop the card. • The card may be damaged or the recorded content may be damaged or erased. • Store the card in the card case or the storage bag after use and when you store or carry the card. • Do not allow dirt, dust or water to enter the terminals on the back of the card and do not touch the terminals with your fingers.
Others When disposing of/transferring memory cards If using the ‘format’ or ‘delete’ functions on your camera or computer, this only changes the file management information, and does not completely delete the data from within the memory card. When disposing of or transferring your memory cards, we recommend physically destroying the memory card itself, or using commercially available computer data erasing software to completely delete the data from the card.
Others When not using the camera for a long period of time • Store the batteries in a cool and dry place with a relatively stable temperature. [Recommended temperature: 15 °C to 25 °C, Recommended humidity: 40% to 60%] • Always remove the batteries and the card from the camera. • If the batteries are left inserted in the camera they will discharge as a weak electric current passes through them even if the camera is turned off. [Read P118 for information about Ni-MH (nickel metal hydride) batteries.
Others Message Display Confirmation messages or error messages will be displayed on the screen in some cases. The major messages are described below as examples.
