Frequently asked questions Page Do the Audio/Video cables need to be connected to the TV in order to see the Menus? • If your television does not have AUDIO/VIDEO terminals, an RF modulator is necessary. Consult your local dealer for more information. What equipment is necessary to play multi channel surround sound? • DVD-Video: You can play DVD-Video multi channel surround by digitally connecting an amplifier equipped with a Dolby Digital or DTS decoder.
Troubleshooting guide Before requesting service, make the following checks. If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, refer to “Product information” on page 44. The following do not indicate a problem with this unit: • • • • Regular disc rotating sounds. Poor reception due to atmospheric conditions. Image disturbance during search. Interruptions in reception due to periodic satellite broadcasting breaks.
Operation Cannot operate the television. • Change manufacturer code. Some televisions cannot be operated even if you change the code. • The remote control and main unit are using different codes. Troubleshooting guide Recording, scheduled recording and copying (Continued) The DV automatic recording function does not work. Page • If images cannot be recorded or if the recording is aborted, check the connections and DV equipment settings. • You cannot start recording until the images from the DV equipment appear on the television. • Recording may not be performed as desired if the time codes on the tape in the DV equipment are not successive.
Bitstream This is the digital form of multi-channel audio data (e.g., 5.1 channel) before it is decoded into its various channels. CPRM (Content Protection for Recordable Media) CPRM is technology used to protect broadcasts that are allowed to be recorded only once. Such broadcasts can be recorded only with CPRM compatible recorders and discs. DivX A video compression format developed by DivX, Inc. that compresses video files without any considerable loss of video quality.
