On the unit’s display
Before requesting service, check the below items. If you have doubt about the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not
solve the problem, consult your dealer.

NO READ The disc is dirty or badly scratched. Follow the instructions in “Maintenance and Handling” to clean the disc if it is
dirty.
The disc is not available if it is scratched and this display doesn’t disappear.

It can not be read for the disc which
doesn’t cope with it.
Exchange a disc.
The DVD-RAM/PD lens cleaner
has finished cleaning.
Take the cleaner out of the unit.
UNSUPPORT You have inserted a disc the unit
cannot play or record on.
Insert a disc the unit can play or record on.

U14 The unit is hot. The unit switches to standby automatically for safety reasons and cannot be
operated. Wait for about 30 minutes for the service number to disappear.
Select a position with good ventilation when installing the unit.
Do not block the cooling fan on the rear of the unit.
U99 The unit fails to operate properly. Press [Í/I] to switch the unit to standby. Now press [Í/I] again to turn the
unit on.
REMOTE
DVD
The remote control and main unit
are using different codes.
Change the code on the remote control or main unit.

SELF
CHECK
A power failure occurred or the AC
mains plug was disconnected while
the power was ON. However, self
check is also activated when this
unit is normally turned on.
The unit is carrying out its recovery process. Wait until the message
disappears.
HDD SLEEP The HDD is paused to extend its
lifetime.
Press [HDD] to start.
Troubleshooting guide
No power Insert the AC mains lead securely into the household AC outlet.
The unit is on but cannot be
operated.
The unit is hot (“U14” appears on the display).
Wait until “U14” disappears.
Recording drive or playback drive have not been selected properly.
One of the unit’s safety devices may have activated.
Reset the unit as follows:
(1) Press [Í/I] on the main unit to switch to standby.
If the unit doesn’t switch to standby, press and hold [Í/I] for about 10 seconds. The unit is
forcibly switched to standby.
Alternatively, disconnect the AC mains lead, wait one minute, then reconnect it.
(2) Press [Í/I] to turn the unit on.
The unit switches to standby
automatically.
One of the unit’s safety devices may have activated.
Press [Í/I] to turn the unit on.
Cannot eject a disc. Press [Í/I] to turn the unit off. Hold down [, STOP] and [CH, W] on the main unit simultaneously
for about 5 seconds.
If “Power Save” is set to “ON” and the Child Lock function is activated, above operation does not
work.
TV reception worsens after
connecting the unit.
This can occur because the signals are being divided between the unit and the TV.
It can be solved by using a signal booster, available from audio-visual suppliers.
Consult your dealer if reception does not improve.
Due to inherent characteristics of the HDD, the picture may occasionally be disturbed.
This is normal.
Screen size is wrong. Check the settings on your TV.
Check the settings for “TV Aspect”, “Norm (4:3) TV Settings (DVD-Video)” or “Norm (4:3)
TV Settings (DVD-RAM)” in the Connection menu.

The picture flickers. Adjust the TV’s vertical frequency. Read the TV’s operating instructions or consult your
dealer.
On-screen messages do not
appear.
Go to Display in the SETUP menus and select “Automatic” for “On-Screen Messages”.
Press [STATUS] to show the on-screen messages constantly.

The grey background does not
appear.
Go to Display in the SETUP menus and select “On” for “Grey Background”.
